Commission publishes 2022 Work Programme

Commission adopts 2022 Work Programme

This week, the European Commission adopted its 2022 Work Programme, which lays out 42 new policy initiatives across the six headline ambitions of President von der Leyen's Political Guidelines.

Under the headline of the European Green Deal, some of the initiatives include the proposal of a regulatory framework for certification of carbon removals, a follow up on the zero pollution action plan, new rules on the sustainable use of pesticides and more.

In regards to Europe's digital transformation, a European Chips Act will be adopted to promote state-of-the-art European technology, as well as a European Cyber Resilience Act and measures to facilitate the uptake of digital skills in schools and higher education.

A new feature of this work programme is the introduction of a 'one-in, one-out' approach. This means that should unavoidable new burdens be introduced, burdens linked to existing EU legislation in the same policy area will be systematically and proactively reduced.
