Commission partners with tourism industry for patronage voucher schemes

Following the significant impact of the coronavirus crisis on the tourism industry, the European Commission is working to give patronage voucher schemes across the EU a visibility boost. The schemes allow consumers to support hotels and restaurants by paying for a visit in the future.

Patronage vouchers are important from a cash flow perspective as consumers pay today for meals and visits that will take place in the future. The Commission has announced that it will work with Member States, local tourism organisations and market players to scale-up such patronage initiatives. It will also launch a website that centralises information about patronage voucher schemes across Europe.
