The European Commission has published a policy report on innovating cities. The report, for EU R&I Sustainable Urban Development, discusses some of the many challenges faced by cities and their populations, from climate change, pollution and energy efficiency, to urban mobility, waste and water management and health. 

The report takes stock of city innovations funded by the EU from FP5 up to Horizon 2020, ahead of innovations to come in Horizon Europe. Analysis in the report finds the best knowledge, ideas and practices from 41 projects funded under FP7, to showcase the EU-wide contribution to urban societal challenges. 

It calls for intergrated policy research solutions that will generate co-benefits, for authorities, citizens, society and the environment.
