EEA seeks experts to help shape the second European Climate Risk Assessment
The European Environment Agency (EEA) is inviting experts to join the Thematic Expert Groups supporting the second European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA-2). Experts from public authorities, research organisations and practice are encouraged to apply by 13 November 2026, 23:59 CET.
Building on the first assessment published in 2024, EUCRA-2 will examine Europe’s major climate risks, adaptation options and policy readiness. Expected in 2028, it will place greater emphasis on regional differences, interconnected risks and the conditions needed to implement adaptation solutions.
For ERRIN members and their regional ecosystems, the call offers an opportunity to contribute practical knowledge of climate risks, governance challenges and adaptation measures to a European assessment. Applicants do not need to be climate scientists: experience in public administration, planning, infrastructure management and adaptation implementation is also relevant.
The groups will cover five thematic areas:
Natural ecosystems and ecosystem services;
Food systems and bioeconomy;
Infrastructure, the built environment and related services, including water, energy and transport;
Health and wellbeing;
Industry, services and finance.
Selected experts will contribute evidence, identify implementation barriers and provide feedback on emerging findings. Activities will take place mainly online between December 2026 and March 2028. Participation is unpaid, with travel expenses and per diem available for in-person meetings.
ERRIN members with relevant expertise are encouraged to apply and share the call with colleagues and stakeholders in their regional ecosystems.
