This week a political agreement was reached between the EU Member States and the European Parliament on the EIT and its new Strategic Innovation Agenda for 2021-2027. 

The adopted proposals align EIT with Horizon Europe, boosting Europe's innovation potential. The budget of almost €3 billion represents a 25% increase on the previous funding period and will be used to drive Europe's recovery as well as the twin transitions. 

The launch of two new Knowledge and Innovation Communities was also agreed. Over the coming years, one will launch in the field of Cultural and Creative Sectors and Industries and another on Water, Marine and Maritime Sectors and Ecosystems. 

The EIT's activities in the new period will:

• Help 750 higher education institutions become more innovative
• Support 30,000 entrepreneurial students bring 4000 innovations to the market
• Power 700 start-ups.
