On 6 August, the European Commission launched a call for evidence for the European Research Area (ERA) Act.
The upcoming Act will aim to strengthen R&D investment and bring it up to the 3% GDP target by improving the general environment for generating innovation, reducing fragmentation and boosting the EU’s competitiveness. It will focus research support more on strategic priorities, strengthen alignment between the EU and Member States’ funding priorities, and promote the free movement of knowledge and talent across Europe.
The call for evidence will remain open for feedback from all stakeholders until 10 September and will be followed by a 12-week open consultation with specific questions. The overall impact assessment should be completed by the end of this year, and the ERA Act is expected to be adopted by the Commission in the third quarter of 2026.
Learn more about the call for evidence and submit your feedback by 10 September 2025 here.
On 30 June this year, ERRIN's Policy Working Group held a meeting on ERA Policy Agenda 2025–2027 and perspectives for the ERA Act. ERRIN members may find the presentation from the event after logging in on this page.
In parallel to the ERA Act call for evidence, the call for evidence and public consultation for the European Innovation Act are also still open until 3 October. Learn more and contribute here.
