EU Circular Economy Action Plan adopted

The Commission has adopted a new Circular Economy Action Plan which aims to protect the environment by further implementing measures on the life cycle of products, green economy and strengthening the competitiveness. The actions foresee an involvement of different stakeholders and business. The action plan is an integral part of the EU Industrial Strategy announced yesterday and one of the main parts of the European Green Deal.

The Commission’s objectives are to focus on sectors with high circularity using the most resources like ICT, electronics, batteries and vehicles, textiles, construction and food. Another goal is to make sustainable products the norm in the EU and empower consumers to raise awareness about the sustainable products. Ensuring less waste is also an important part of the plan, which foresee transformation of waste into a secondary resources and setting a EU-wide system for collection of waste.
