European Commission call for applications: Expert Group on Cluster Policy
The European Commission (DG GROW) has launched a call for applications to re-establish the Expert Group on Cluster Policy. ERRIN encourages its members and regional stakeholders active in cluster policy, innovation ecosystems and industrial development to consider applying.
European clusters play a key role in implementing industrial policy on the ground. They connect companies, SMEs, research organisations and other actors along value chains, supporting innovation uptake, EU competitiveness and the clean transition. The importance of clusters has also been underlined in recent strategic reflections on Europe’s industrial future and the Clean Industrial Deal.
The Expert Group on Cluster Policy will operate until December 2027, with the possibility of a two-year extension.
Why this matters
Participation in the Expert Group offers a unique opportunity to:
Contribute directly to shaping EU cluster policy and its role in delivering key industrial and competitiveness objectives.
Bring regional and territorial perspectives into EU-level discussions on industrial ecosystems, value chains and investment.
Share practical experience from regional innovation ecosystems, clusters and SMEs.
Exchange with peers from across Europe, including representatives from Member States, cluster organisations, practitioners and academia.
For ERRIN members working on industrial transition, Smart Specialisation (S3), interregional cooperation and innovation ecosystems, this group represents an important channel to influence EU policy and ensure that regional realities are reflected in future initiatives.
Who can apply
The call is open to:
Stakeholder organisations with experience in implementing cluster policy at regional or national level (Type C members).
Experienced practitioners in business development and interregional investment projects representing a common interest (Type B or C members, depending on the case).
Renowned researchers in the field of clusters, competitiveness and innovation, appointed in their personal capacity (Type A members).
For the first selection round, applications must be submitted by: 31 December 2025, 12:00 (CEST).
