The European Commission has published the Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2021-2022 - the EU research and innovation framework programme. The work programme set out the funding opportunities for this period and provide an overview of the calls for proposals that will open.

The total budget of the Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2021-2022 has increased to €15.4 billion - representing an increase of €723 million. Out of this increase, €673 million will be dedicated to EU Missions, while €50 million will be dedicated to climate, energy and mobility actions. As a result of the budget increase, 19 new calls dedicated to the roll-out of the five EU Missions have been announced.

The first round of the EU Missions calls will open on 22 December 2021 and the second will open on 11 January 2022.
