Green Deal

The European Green Deal Investment Plan and Just Transition Mechanism published

European Commission has presented a plan which will contribute to the overall goal to become a climate-neutral continent by 2050. The European Green Deal Investment Plan - the Sustainable Europe Investment Plan - is the investment pillar of the Green Deal. It will mobilise public investment and help to unlock private funds through EU financial instruments which would lead to at least €1 trillion of investments, mostly through InvestEU.

In practical terms, the EU wants to provide tools for investors and will facilitate sustainable public investments by encouraging green budgeting and procurement. The Commission will also provide support to public authorities and project managers in planning and executing sustainable projects. Part of the plan, the Just Transition Mechanism, will be focused on fair and just green transition. It will mobilise investments to support workers and citizens of the regions most impacted by the transition.
