The European Urban Initiative is launching its 4th Call for Innovative Urban Actions in early 2026
The European Urban Initiative is set to launch its 4th Call for Innovative Urban Actions in early 2026, backed by a budget of approximately 60 million euros from the ERDF. This new call aims to adapt and build on the principles of previous rounds, with an updated framework that better supports cities in piloting out-of-the-box, locally rooted solutions.
While accessible to all urban authorities, the call strongly encourages small and medium-sized cities, dynamic local authorities and those with limited prior EU funding experience to apply. Grants will support roughly 30 projects, with each receiving up to 2 million euros, covering up to 80% of eligible costs.
Thematic priorities include economy and prosperity, housing, climate and energy, mobility, digitalisation, social inclusion, and public safety. Projects are expected to run for about two years, beginning in autumn 2026. The simplified financial framework and broader eligibility aims to empower cities to take real risks and test innovation in real urban settings. Interested cities are encouraged to prepare now by building partnerships and defining local challenges.
