Launch of AdaptationHubs: Creating local and regional platforms for climate adaptation across the EU

ERRIN at the launch of the AdaptationHubs project

On 10 to 11 December, ERRIN participated in the official kick-off meeting of AdaptationHubs project, one out of the seven new projects ERRIN has joined in 2025. AdaptationHubs is a flagship initiative of the European Commission to support the EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change. Funded by the Horizon Europe programme, this two-year project aims to create and implement national platforms in all 27 countries in the EU with a strong focus on multilevel governance with EU regions.

The consortium is led by REGEA and brings together 32 partners, including national experts, private scientific institutions, regional entities, universities, and key stakeholders, to support the creation of National Adaptation hubs as well as its continuation in the long term and exploitation of their results. The main goal is to strengthen and facilitate dialogues from cities and regions to countries and EU levels, via grouping and capacity building for mutual learning and cooperation to regions.

During the kick-off meeting organised in Zagreb, keynote speeches from CINEA and the European Commission highlighted the need to strengthen multilevel governance to successfully create national adaptation plans.

ERRIN’s role in the project

As one of the parters in the consortium, ERRIN will lead and oversee the overall implementation of the national adaptation hubs for 5 to 6 countries, including reporting on the activities as well as supporting the twinning processes and transnational exchanges, together with key partners of the consortium. Additionally, ERRIN will contribute to communication and dissemination activities. ERRIN will work to ensure that regional and local perspectives are fully represented throughout the project, keeping members informed of upcoming activities and creating opportunities for them to contribute to the development of the new governance structures under the Adaptation Hubs.

Ensuring alignment with other initiatives within the Adaptation Mission (e.g., Regilience+) and beyond (e.g. climate mitigation, and ERRIN projects NetZeroCities and CapaCITIES) will be key to further strengthen cooperation to fight climate change.
