New Mission Solutions Explorer to support the uptake of climate adaptation solutions
A new Mission Solutions Explorer will help regions and local authorities identify practical climate adaptation measures and explore how they could be replicated in their territories. Presented during the webinar 'Navigating the Mission Adaptation tools', the tool is expected to launch by the end of October 2026 under the Knowledge Hub of the EU Mission on Adaptation Portal, alongside the forthcoming European framework for climate preparedness.
The webinar also highlighted existing Mission resources supporting regional adaptation planning, access to finance and citizen engagement. Together, these tools demonstrate how knowledge and experience developed through the Mission can support adaptation action across European territories.
Mission Solutions Explorer
The Explorer will initially bring together around 100 adaptation solutions from across the Mission, covering a range of climate hazards and thematic areas. Users will be able to search by keyword, climate hazard, country or theme, and explore examples through an interactive map.
Each entry will include key facts, a description of the solution, its broader benefits and information on replicability, along with a downloadable two-page summary. For regional and local authorities, this will provide a starting point for identifying approaches tested elsewhere and considering their relevance to local challenges.
The Explorer is intended to support the move from inspiration towards implementation, although it will not necessarily provide the full technical detail needed to reproduce each solution. Further examples will be added progressively, and the organisers plan to circulate a survey to gather feedback and suggestions for additional solutions.
Practical resources already available
The webinar also introduced several resources useful for implementing climate adaptation measures:
Regional Adaptation Planning DIY Toolkit: a free Excel workbook supporting the development, implementation and monitoring of adaptation plans. Aligned with the six steps of the Regional Adaptation Support Tool, it provides guidance, linked templates and worked examples. Authorities can start at the step most relevant to their current progress and adapt the templates to their local context.
