Pathways2Resilience Summit Budapest: a milestone moment for P2R regions
ERRIN was delighted to join more than 100 European regions, EU representatives, experts and practitioners – including several ERRIN members – in Budapest for a milestone moment in the Pathways2Resilience journey at the P2R Summit 2026.
Co-organised by ERRIN and hosted by the City of Budapest, the Summit marked an important step for the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, bringing regions together to reflect on their vital role in driving climate adaptation across Europe.
The summit brought together the first 38 regions who make up Cohort 1 of the project, who are concluding their 18‑month P2R journey, and the 62 newly selected regions who form Cohort 2, who are just beginning the P2R process.
Interactive workshops throughout the summit allowed participants to learn from concrete regional experiences through hands‑on sessions, including Innovation Practice Groups (IPGs) facilitated by project partners. It was also great to hear from Miljenko Sedlar, Head of Climate at North West Croatia Regional Energy and Climate Agency (REGEA) and coordinator of the AdaptationHubs project – another project ERRIN is excited to be a part of.
The Summit also provided regions with the chance to engage directly with high‑level EU policymakers, including:
Kata Tüttő, President of the European Committee of the Regions
Philippe Tulkens, Deputy Mission Manager of the Mission Adaptation at the European Commission
Irene Bonvissuto Team Leader for the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change at DG CLIMA.
These exchanges reinforced the importance of the role of regions and of innovation ecosystems in delivering the Mission’s objectives – a message ERRIN continues to champion across our work on the Missions.
The busy three-day summit concluded with the symbolic passing of the torch from Cohort 1 to Cohort 2, marking the beginning of an exciting regional resilience journey for the new 62 regions.
For the ERRIN team, the summit was a key moment to strengthen the Mission Adaptation by highlighting the essential role regions play in driving Europe’s climate resilience. Working with regions from both cohorts, we discussed their regional adaptation ambitions, shared insights from the first 18 months of the project and sparked new collaborations to tackle emerging climate challenges. Through projects such as Pathways2Resilience, ERRIN remains committed to keeping regions at the heart of Europe’s adaptation agenda.
