Public consultation on new EU soil strategy

The European Commission has launched an online public consultation on the development of its new EU soil strategy. The consultation is part of a larger body of consultations addressing specific commitments in the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030.

The new soil strategy should address the essential role healthy soils play in producing food and raw materials, cleaning drinking water, reducing flood risks and storing carbon, as well as the challenges faced by the ongoing degradation of soil. The strategy will also contribute towards one of the key targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - addressing soil and land-related issues in a comprehensive way to help achieve land degradation neutrality by 2030.

The consultation is based on the roadmap on a new Soil Strategy, which can be viewed here. The consultation is open here to all until 27 April 2021.
