Deadline extended - EU Multiannual Financial Framework Public Consultation: ICT Cluster

As part of our broader advocacy work in embedding the regional and place-based dimension into EU research and innovation policy funding, ERRIN is seeking to develop cluster-level inputs on the future of key R&I domains especially linking to the four policy windows proposed under both Horizon Europe (FP10) and European Competitiveness Fund (ECF).

Digital technology, as a core enabler of productively, competitiveness and resilience, has a vital part to play in strengthening regional capacities and prosperity. On the other hand, regions can contribute significantly towards enhancing EU-level digital maturity and sophistication as R&I ecosystems, public procurers of innovative services, sources of high-quality data and hosts for key critical infrastructure such as in the case of federated models. Towards a review of some of the key points that have arisen with regards to ERRIN's position on digitalisation and AI, you are kindly invited to peruse our 2025 response to the CoR consultation on the AI Continent Action Plan here.

Some of the key points that you may choose to respond to could pertain to:

  • How can regions best contribute and benefit from EU-level digital policy? What are the core issues that should be prioritised? (For example: interoperability, digital maturity, digital services, key technology families such as AI and Quantum etc)
  • How would the synergies between Horizon Europe, ECF and NRPPs best support the digital sector? What dedicated programmes would best be oriented towards supporting both the EU-level digital industry as well as the regions more broadly?
  • What are the core barriers to digital transformation and how should these be tackled in the future MFF? How can companies be better retained in Europe and regions come to contribute more towards the EU-push for competitiveness and resilience with regards to the digital sector?
  • What role should regions play with regards to digital sovereignty?
  • How should present and future EU-digital policy integrate and support infrastructures such as the EDIHs and EDICs?
  • To illustrate our position further, please send us examples or success stories from your region to be integrated in our input document.

Please provide your inputs to kyle.galea@errin.eu by 14th of May.
