Proposal Information
Working title: Preventing decline in Elderly residents’ Health Condition using Predictive Analytics on eHealth from Smart Living Environment The elderly population in Europe is increasing challenging the health care services. In EU, almost half of the expenses in hospital care derives from people over the age of 65 and their per capita healthcare costs are three to five times higher than those under 65. From a demographic and financial point of view, it is important to reduce the number of fragile elderly people living in nursing homes that are at a high risk of worsening their general condition and being hospitalised. Often elderly patients are worsened mentally, cognitively or physically during hospitalization, even if they recover from the illness that brought them there.Approximately one-third of patients over 70 years old and more than half of patients over 85 leave the hospital more disabled than when they arrived, resulting in a decline in independent living, social well-being and quality of life. The aim of this project is to use ambient assisted living technology to collect and analyse individually predictive data to prevent deterioration of health condition and preventing hospitalisation therefore improving independent living, social participation and quality of life among elderly people. The project seek to validate, implement and test non-obtrusive innovative eHealth solutions in nursing homes for frail elderly people. The project will evaluate physical, cognitive, mental and social well-being of the elderly people. The usefulness and effectiveness are used in evaluating the eHealth solution and the users personalized recommendations for changes will be implemented. The eHealth solutions register changes in everyday indicators and are used to support independent living and healthy lifestyle among older persons. The assistance of this technology will foster social participation and reduce risk of social exclusion. The technology is being affordable for care to implement and put into practice. The project is composed of a number of work packages. These might include, but are not necessarily limited to Project management and coordination: The main objective of this WP is the coordination and management of the consortium partners. The scientific work is assisted and monitored, and administrative tasks are performed. Analysis Exploration and best practise analysis: Creates the evidence base that will underpin the project and produces essential knowledge for the conceptualisation of the eHealth solutions and services. The users (e.g. care receivers and care providers) perception of the obtrusiveness of the eHealth solution will be evaluated in terms of physical, cognitive, social and mental well-being. In this WP ethical aspects of collecting data, e.g. whom has access to data and what are data used for will be considered. Concept- Implementation of eHealth solutions in real environment:The eHealth solution will be implemented in nursing homes, tested and validated. Data will be collected and analysed e.g. numbers of hospital admissions, contacts to GP, illness, quality of life and independent living among the elderly included in the project. Cost-effectiveness of the eHealth solution: Economic analyses comparing the relative costs of the solution compared to the outcome.
