Aragón Exterior (AREX) is a government-owned company to promote the internationalisation of the economy of the Region of Aragón (Spain). It belongs to the Public Business Corporation of Aragón and is attached to the Department of Economy, Industry and Employment of the Government of Aragón. AREX provides personalised services for internationalisation and foreign direct investment attraction. In this frame, the AREX delegation in Brussels focuses primarily on the internationalisation of Aragon innovation through two activities: advising on strategic grant development and facilitating consortium building.

Furthermore, AREX plays a significant role in deploying the Aragon S3 by supporting interregional cooperation through Aragon contributions to the S3 platform activities and the involvement in the following partnerships: Safe and Sustainable Mobility / Water Smart Territories / European Hydrogen Valleys / Cultural and Creative Ecosystem / High Performance Production through 3D-Printing / Traceability and big data in the agrifood value chain / High Tech Farming Partnership / Medical Technologies / Advanced battery materials

S3 Strategy

The Aragon S3 2021-2027 seeks to tap into the European policy framework that creates opportunities for the regional economy. The Aragon S3 aims to maximise the impact of the Structural Funds and the Recovery and Resilience Facility by guiding the prioritisation areas to invest these funds in Aragon. Internationally, the Aragon S3 is also committed to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (https://www.aragon.es/-/agenda-2030). The Aragon Specialisation Pattern is a mix of scientific, technological and business capabilities interacting to create and strengthen a regional innovation ecosystem able to compete within today's highly competitive world. Aragon has remarkable entrepreneurial capabilities, including several large multinational industrial and service companies. In addition, it has a stable system of high-excellence Technology Centres and Research Institutes. The Aragon S3 facilitate tech and R&D agents to better focus their lines of work on the following strategic objectives: 1/ To guide and promote the industrial transition of Aragon. 2/ To strengthen the Aragonese R&D&I system to adapt it to the needs of recovery and transformation of the productive fabric of Aragon and the region. 3/ To position Aragon's knowledge and technology in national and international markets. 4/ To create, attract and retain talent in Aragon.

RECIPROCITY

RECIPROCITY aims to initiate and support replication projects in at least 20 cities and municipalities varying in size, location, degree of urbanisation and mobility demand. As a result, RECIPROCITY will equip them with the tools, knowledge and contacts.

EU Research Champions Sustainable Cultural Tourism

As one of the eight Horizon 2020 research projects included in the latest CORDIS Results Pack, ERRIN's Be.CULTOUR project features as a good practice to promote sustainable cultural tourism. The results showcase how working with local communities and cultural heritage leads to better conservation practices and authentic visitor experiences while boosting local economies. CORDIS, the EU's research results platform, disseminates findings from EU-funded research to drive innovation across multiple sectors.

Ten European cities awarded with the EU Mission Cities Label

On 12 October, the European Commission awarded the first ten European cities with the Label of ‘EU Mission Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities’ for their plans to achieve climate-neutrality by 2030.  The EU Mission Label symbolises a crucial milestone, not only recognising the comprehensive plans of these cities to achieve climate neutrality by 2030 but also serves as a catalyst for facilitating access to both public and private funding to support these ambitious goals.

Be.CULTOUR peer-learning visit – Policy recommendations on circular cultural tourism

The Be.CULTOUR community gathered in Sciacca, Italy, on 21 -22 September, for the second Be.CULTOUR peer-learning study visit.  The event, organised by ERRIN and hosted by The 5 Senses Open-air Museum of Sciacca, one of the 16 Be.CULTOUR mirror ecosystems, provided an excellent opportunity for 50 participants coming from different countries in Europe to share inputs for the Be.CULTOUR policy recommendations on circular tourism and engage in knowledge-sharing and best-practice discussions.

RECIPROCITY: Outcomes of the Istanbul Mobility Mission and new opportunities for members!

ERRIN recently participated in the RECIPROCITY Mobility Mission held in Istanbul from 23-26 May. This mission was a valuable opportunity to explore Istanbul’s innovative mobility ecosystem, engage in knowledge sharing and discuss best practices. Beyond the Mobility Missions, the RECIPROCITY project offers further opportunities for ERRIN members.

ERRIN members get Saltaire Inspired: Be.CULTOUR study-visit & Local workshop in Saltaire, Bradford

International partners from Be.CULTOUR project community traveled to West Yorkshire from 27 to 30 May to learn more about key events and destinations in the district, including Bradford 2025, exchange successful approaches and build collaborations. The visit was organised in the frame of the peer-learning activities of Be.CULTOUR, where Saltaire Inspired, an arts charity creating contemporary art events in Saltaire Industrial Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the 16 mirror ecosystems. Among the visitors, 3 ERRIN members took part in the event, presenting their innovative approaches toward circular cultural tourism and experience as Capitals of Culture: the City of Leeuwarden, APT Basilicata and the City of Savonlinna.
