S3 Strategy

The strategic areas of the economy, i.e. regional smart specialisations, are:

  • Water Economy: a specialisation based on the largest surface water resources in Poland, around which tourism, as well as a number of other types of activities that have great innovation potential, have developed. Warmia and Mazury are known for the production of yachts and boats.
  • High-quality food: this specialisation is based on the strong position of agriculture in the region. The food production region has developed a very strong scientific specialisation, which is currently achieving significant international success and is also a research and scientific base for companies and clusters.
  • Wood and furniture: a specialisation strongly rooted in the region’s traditions, which has significant competence in supplying raw materials and semi-finished products, but most of all, factories located here deliver final products.
  • Healthy Life: It is a specialisation based on broadly understood care for the health of the inhabitants of the voivodship. The basis for the development of the S3  "healthy life" concept was the unique potential of the environment of Warmia and Mazury and the unique economic entities operating in the region, developing in the sector related to medical and related services. The position of research and scientific centres in the field of medicine is also becoming stronger, specialist health services are developing dynamically and the attention to the quality of life among the inhabitants of the region is increasing. The specialisation also covers the sector of technologies/services/products for health care, health prevention, promotion of a healthy lifestyle and technologies/services/products related to the low-emission economy and maintaining high quality of the environment.
