Climate Adaptation & Resilience WG meeting: Innovative Climate Adaptation Solutions: From Local Practices to Future EU Funding
This Climate Adaptation and Resilience Working Group meeting will bring together regional perspectives and EU-level insights to explore how innovative climate adaptation solutions can be scaled up and better supported. By combining practical experiences from regions with forward-looking policy discussions, the session aims to bridge the gap between on-the-ground implementation and the design of future EU funding frameworks.
The meeting will feature a dedicated policy discussion on the future of EU funding for climate adaptation in the MFF, in the context of the ongoing reflections on the future Horizon Programme (FP10) and the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF). ERRIN will present its ongoing policy work on the future MFF, including key messages from its recent paper highlighting the strategic role of EU Missions and mission-oriented approach in the next long-term EU budget.
Participants will engage directly with European Commission representatives to discuss the future of the Adaptation Mission, as well as how innovative climate adaptation and resilience solutions can be funded and scaled up through FP10 and the ECF.
Particular attention will be given to the place of climate adaptation and resilience within the future EU funding architecture. As resilience is expected to receive growing attention in future EU budget allocations, the discussion will explore how it is currently being defined and how climate resilience relates to broader concepts such as preparedness, security and competitiveness. Particular attention will be given to the proposed FP10 and ECF and the significant resources allocated to the "Resilience, Defence and Space" Policy Window, examining the extent to which climate adaptation and resilience are expected to be supported within this framework and how these priorities may connect with other policy windows, including Clean Transition and Industrial Decarbonisation. The discussion will also explore how emerging EU policy frameworks, such as the Integrated Framework on Climate Resilience, the European Water Resilience Strategy and broader climate risk management initiatives, may influence future funding priorities and instruments.
The event will showcase a range of innovative climate adaptation solutions developed by ERRIN members within EU-funded projects, including digital tools, Nature-based Solutions (NBS), governance models and other approaches at European, national and local levels. Beyond presenting their solutions, participants will be invited to reflect on what is needed to scale them up, sharing perspectives on key challenges, investment needs and gaps in current support frameworks, and helping to identify priorities for future EU funding to effectively deliver climate resilience on the ground.
