Facilitating RePowerEU – Cities as Frontrunners and Facilitators in Sustainable Energy

Facilitating RePowerEU – Cities as Frontrunners and Facilitators in Sustainable Energy

A hybrid workshop “Facilitating RePowerEU – Cities as Frontrunners and Facilitators in Sustainable Energy” will take place on 12 October from 15.00-16.30 CEST in the frame of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2022 side events. The session is organised in collaboration with the Helsinki EU Office and the Finnish Cities of Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa.

European cities are at the frontline of implementing the green transition and are key figures, as well as intermediaries between EU strategies and citizens. Cities function as development platforms and facilitators for new solutions that will have direct impact on the lives of citizens. In this hybrid workshop, three challenges of the RePowerEU-plan; saving energy, producing clean energy, and diversifying energy supplies are discussed through three different Finnish approaches on both local and regional levels. The panel comprises of representatives from the Cities of Helsinki, Espoo, and Vantaa. The aim is to spark new ideas and dialogue by presenting the innovative approaches and sustainable solutions the neighbouring Finnish cities have adopted to meet the current energy-related challenges.

We encourage the participants to engage in the workshop, to reflect and discuss the topic together with the panellists. The event is in a hybrid format, with participants on-site at Helsinki EU Office (Rue Guimard 7) in Brussels, and online via Microsoft Teams. Please note there are limited spots available for on-site participation.
