Housing Task Force of the European Commission organises its second Municipal Housing Thematic Workshop
The European Commission's Housing Task Force, in collaboration with Housing Europe, is organising the second edition of its Municipal Housing Thematic Workshop on 14 September 2026 (09:30–13:00 CEST) at the Albert Borschette Conference Centre in Brussels, with the possibility to participate online.
Building on the first workshop held in June 2026, this second session will explore key factors for scaling up municipal and affordable housing initiatives across Europe. It will bring together representatives from local and national authorities, housing associations, EU institutions and other stakeholders to exchange experiences and discuss practical solutions for developing resilient, affordable and community-oriented housing models.
The workshop will focus on three thematic areas:
Social acceptance and tenant engagement, including communication strategies, citizen participation and social mix;
Risk-sharing mechanisms, with examples of public-private cooperation and the role of EU funding;
Business models for housing management and maintenance, including resilience to climate change, digital tools and long-term financial sustainability.
Participants will hear case studies from Belgium, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy and Croatia, alongside contributions from national authorities across Europe. The discussions will build on lessons learned from the first workshop, which highlighted the importance of strong non-profit housing sectors, innovative financing mechanisms, governance models and climate-resilient municipal housing strategies.
Registration is open for both in-person and online participation. Please note that registration for in-person attendance closes on 9 September at 18:00 CEST.
