Smart Cities WG Meeting: How to keep up the momentum as a Mission city?

Smart Cities WG Meeting: How to keep up the momentum as a Mission city?

The Smart Cities Working Group is organising an event on the Cities Mission label, on Wednesday 22 October at 14:00 at ERRIN’s premises. Cases studies from Mission cities will be presented. Moreover, representatives from the Mission Secretariat (DG RTD, European Commission) and the Capital Hub (currently implemented by the NetZeroCities project) will share the latest updates and perspectives on the developments expected in the coming months.

The European Week of Regions and Cities 2025 will be the occasion to award the Mission Label to a new batch of Mission Cities. Three years after the selection of the 111 cities participating in the EU Mission: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, almost one hundred Mission Cities have now received the EU Mission Label following expert review by the European Investment Bank and the Joint Research Centre.

Obtaining the label acknowledges the quality of the Climate City Contracts developed by the Mission Cities – each city’s roadmap to climate neutrality by 2030, including plans for energy, buildings, waste management and transport, together with related investment plans co-created with local stakeholders and citizens.

The EU Mission Label aims to facilitate access to public and private funding and provides support for the implementation of climate neutrality actions. What best practices have been developed by Mission cities and the NetZeroCities Platform in this regard? How does the NetZeroCities Platform evolve to support Mission Cities in the implementation of their Climate City Contracts?

These are the questions that our speakers and members will address during this event.

In order to attend the event in person, please register by pressing the “Register” button on this page. Please note that you need to be logged in to register. In-person attendance is most encouraged, but stakeholders based in the regions who are unable to travel to Brussels, can also sign up for following the meeting online by sending an email to Paul.Brunet@errin.eu.

Logged-in ERRIN members may find the meeting agenda attached and the the presentation from the event below.

ERRIN plays several roles in supporting the implementation of the Cities Mission through the NetZeroCities platform and the CapaCITIES 2.0 project.

Within NetZeroCities, ERRIN acts as a bridge between the cities' needs and the support provided by experts from partner organisations through its two City Advisors. ERRIN also plays an active role in creating synergies with other European initiatives and projects, in providing policy recommendations to improve the implementation of Climate City Contracts, in facilitating the Twinning-learning programme to allow other European cities to learn from the 111 Mission Cities, and in strengthening multi-level governance.
