The Marshal's Office of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship is the institution responsible for the implementation of the voivodship self-government's tasks, including: stimulating economic activity; raising the level of competitiveness and innovation of the voivodship's economy; preserving the value of cultural and natural environment and maintaining spatial order. The tasks of the institution include strategic and operational planning and management of structural funds. The area of special interest of the region's authorities is to support strategic areas of the economy, i.e. regional smart specializations, which include: water economy, high-quality food, wood and furniture.
The strategic areas of the economy, i.e. regional smart specializations, are:
• Water Economy: a specialization based on the largest surface water resources in Poland, around which tourism, as well as a number of other types of activities that have great innovation potential, have developed. Warmia and Mazury is known for the production of yachts and boats.
• High-quality food: this specialization is based on the strong position of agriculture in the region. Around the food production region has developed a very strong scientific specialization, in which currently is achieving significant international successes and which is also a research and scientific base for companies and clusters.
• Wood and furniture: a specialization strongly rooted in the region’s traditions, which has significant competence in supplying raw materials and semi-finished products, but most of all factories located here deliver final products.
