ERRIN is pleased to welcome the Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia (CluBE) as one of its new members for 2026.

CluBE is a non-profit innovation cluster based in Kozani, Greece, driving the region’s green and digital transition through research, capacity building, and multilevel synergies.

Supporting the green transition in Western Macedonia

CluBE’s mission is to foster sustainable development, circular bioeconomy, clean energy, and climate action across the regional quintuple helix of regional economy - businesses, academia, public authorities, and civil society- while supporting Kozani’s objective of achieving climate neutrality by 2030 under the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, where it played a key coordinating role.

CluBE implements regional innovation projects and educational programmes on renewable energy, hydrogen, bio-based products, and environmental awareness, acting as a catalyst for just transition and building Western Macedonia Climate Community that connects citizens, schools, and organisations in collective action for a resilient and inclusive future.

A strong and connected regional ecosystem

Today, CluBE brings together 24 full members and more than 50 associated members, while maintaining active links with the wider regional ecosystem of Western Macedonia. This extensive network enables CluBE to engage effectively with organisations, research institutions, public bodies and companies across the region and beyond.

The main R&I focus areas, aligned with Western Macedonia’s Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3), include:

  • Bioeconomy and Social Innovation
  • Clean Technologies and Hydrogen
  • EcoDesign and New European Bauhaus Initiatives
  • Business Innovation
  • Sustainable and Intelligence Transition
  • Circular economy
  • Environmental education

Joining ERRIN network is an important opportunity for CluBE to strengthen collaboration with leading European innovation organisations, exchange knowledge, and contribute to impactful regional initiatives. We are looking forward to building consortia for European R&D projects, especially under the Horizon Europe programme, with an emphasis on Innovation Action projects of higher TRL’s, where we usually bring on board members of our regional ecosystem to form Regional Demos, our strongest point so far in the EU projects!
