EU Mission on Adaptation publishes 2025/26 Activity Report, highlighting growing regional engagement and 65 funded projects

The European Commission has published the 2025/26 Activity Report of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, providing an overview of the Mission’s progress in supporting climate resilience across Europe and highlighting the growing engagement of regional and local authorities in adaptation action.

The report shows that more than 400 regional and local authorities are now participating in Mission activities and initiatives, demonstrating the increasing role of place-based actors in shaping and implementing climate adaptation measures. This expanding ecosystem is supported by a portfolio of 65 Horizon Europe-funded projects and a Mission Adaptation Community of over 700 participants, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange and peer learning across Europe.

Since its launch, the Mission has played an important role in accelerating adaptation efforts by connecting regions, cities, researchers, citizens and European institutions around a common objective: strengthening resilience to the impacts of climate change. The report highlights how Mission activities are helping to translate policy ambitions into concrete action on the ground, while supporting experimentation, capacity building and the scaling-up of innovative adaptation solutions.

Looking ahead, the report underlines the contribution of Mission activities and projects to the development of the forthcoming Integrated Framework on Climate Resilience, which aims to strengthen coherence across EU adaptation policies and support more systemic, risk-informed and anticipatory approaches to resilience-building.

Alongside the Activity Report, the Commission has also published the updated Mission Projects Catalogue 2026, which provides an overview of all 65 Mission-funded projects, including their objectives, achievements, targeted climate risks and participating local and regional authorities. The catalogue offers a valuable resource for stakeholders interested in exploring ongoing adaptation initiatives and identifying opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Among the projects featured in the catalogue are three initiatives in which ERRIN is actively involved: Pathways2Resilience (P2R), supporting regions in developing transformative climate resilience pathways; RESIST, testing and scaling climate adaptation solutions across European regions; and AdaptationHubs, which is strengthening national adaptation ecosystems through the establishment of National Adaptation Hubs and enhanced knowledge-sharing mechanisms.

The publication of both the Activity Report and the updated Projects Catalogue provides a useful snapshot of the current state of the Mission ecosystem and the growing momentum behind climate adaptation efforts across Europe.
