The European Commission launches the New European Bauhaus Facility Roadmap
On 25 March the European Commission has officially introduced the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Facility Roadmap, which offers a first glimpse at the budget, governance and implementation of the NEB Facility 2025–2027, the first-ever multiannual financial tool for the New European Bauhaus.
The New European Bauhaus Facility 2025–2027 is a new and unique funding tool for the New European Bauhaus (NEB). With a total budget of €360 million for research and innovation from Horizon Europe and at least a similar level of investment from other EU programmes, plus national and private funding, the NEB Facility:
revitalises and transforms neighbourhoods,
promotes innovative solutions and access to affordable housing,
supports innovation towards a sustainable, circular, and regenerative construction ecosystem, and
enables change through research and innovation to foster social cohesion and well-being.
The Roadmap will provide guidance by outlining how the Commission, in close collaboration with Member States and NEB stakeholders, will implement the NEB Facility.
To ensure that the NEB Facility effectively meets real needs on the ground, the European Commission conducted public consultations with the Member States and stakeholders in 2024 to help define its details and priorities. ERRIN took part in this consultation through its NEB input document. The input collected during the consultation helped shape the Roadmap for implementing the NEB Facility from 2025 to 2027. The analysis of the 2024 NEB Facility public consultation was published jointly with the Roadmap.
The next step is the launch of the NEB Facility calls, which will open for applications in 2025.
Get involved in NEB
Members who want to strengthen their involvement in the NEB are warmly invited to express their interest in the forthcoming NEB Calls and sign up for the Project Development session on 20 May in Brussels, which will gather ERRIN stakeholders and practitioners from our regions for a dedicated session devoted to upcoming Horizon Europe Cluster 2, 6 and NEB call for proposals. Please note you need to be logged in to register.
The NEB Task Force is preparing a dedicated meeting for exchanging good practices of NEB implementation, looking into both regional policies and funding mechanisms, as well as outputs of NEB pilots. This meeting will take place before the summer break. Members who are interested in contributing to this meeting can contact Dubravka Jurišić.
ERRIN’s NEB Task Force has been closely monitoring the development of the NEB since its start and became a NEB partner in 2021. Over the past years, the NEB Task Force has established a continuous dialogue with the European Commission aiming at fostering a better understanding of the challenges and support needs for a successful NEB implementation at local and regional level and collecting good regional practices already experimenting on the ground. ERRIN organised NEB Festival side events in 2022 and 2024, the year in which ERRIN also joined the NEB Alliance as a founding member. The NEB Task Force supports members in putting NEB theory into practice and engaged the membership in shaping the NEB facility with a dedicated exchange with the JRC, culminating in an input document. The Task Force has also contributed to the European NEB policy debate, advocating for support for small municipalities to get involved in the NEB.
