About NEB

The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is a creative and interdisciplinary initiative that connects the European Green Deal to our living spaces and experiences. The initiative calls on all of us to imagine and build together a sustainable and inclusive future that is beautiful for our eyes, minds, and souls.

By creating bridges between different backgrounds, cutting across disciplines and building on participation at all levels, the New European Bauhaus inspires a movement to facilitate and steer the transformation of our societies along three inseparable values:

- sustainability, from climate goals to circularity, zero pollution, and biodiversity

- aesthetics, quality of experience and style beyond functionality

- inclusion, from valuing diversity to securing accessibility and affordability

Key elements

- High-level roundtable: Advanced thinkers and practitioners in their field bringing inspiration and acting as community ambassadors for the New European Bauhaus.

- Official partners: Supporting building and inspiring the communities and acting as sounding boards and key interlocutors for the initiative.

- Friends: Inspiring networks, associations, and organisations committed to acting as promoters and key interlocutors throughout the New European Bauhaus initiative.

- The NEB Lab: A co-creation space at the service of the New European Bauhaus community for the delivery of beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive projects to improve our daily lives. NEB Lab projects manifest the New European Bauhaus into concrete actions with two missions: to create enabling conditions for the green transition, such as new tools, frameworks, policy recommendations, etc. and to trigger tangible transformation on the ground.

- National Contact Points: Promote the New European Bauhaus agenda and coordinate efforts to implement the initiative at the national level.

ERRIN as a NEB partner and task force activities

ERRIN has been selected as an official partner of the NEB initiative committing to support it in:

- gathering a diversity of professionals from across disciplines to generate ideas

- identifying inspirational projects, practices or concepts

- engaging with citizens to discuss and collect needs and expectations.

ERRIN has also set up a Task Force to further involve members in the initiative and showcase local and regional examples of NEB, as well as advocate for local approaches to the implementation of NEB projects.

ERRIN input and activities

The ERRIN network, with its members, considers the New European Bauhaus a cross-cutting initiative that should create and strengthen the connection between European regions and local communities. It can do so by taking into account their diversity and the priorities of a wide range of stakeholders as well as different government levels. Based on an NEB conversation organised by ERRIN on 29 June 2021, a contribution has been made providing concrete examples and proposals that have emerged from the conversation organised with different European actors such as architects, researchers and public authorities.

The latest ERRIN activity took place on 29 November 2022 and provided an overview of the NEB-related initiatives from different perspectives taking stock of what has been implemented so far, understanding the various links to get a clear, coherent picture, and exploring the next steps of the NEB.
