Energy & Climate Change
The main objective of the Energy & Climate Change Working Group is to act as a platform to discuss and share information on energy-related policies and funding programmes, especially looking at the Green Deal and REPowerEU, the Green Industrial Plan, the Hydrogen Valleys, the energy storage and batteries (with reference to S3 Partnership on batteries) and Horizon Europe.
The priority areas also feature climate change issues (such as climate adaptation), nature-based solutions and natural resources. The WG is set to explore links and synergies with other areas in which energy and climate change play central role and cooperate with other ERRIN Working Groups, namely the Transport, Smart Cities, SEFS and S3 Working Groups, as well as the ERRIN Task Forces on climate adaptation and on the New European Bauhaus.

EWRC 2023: Energy transition – making local and regional solutions replicable for Europe
As part of EWRC, Pomorskie region is holding a session on Energy transition – making local and regional solutions replicable for Europe on 11 October from 09:30-10:30. This workshop will cover initiatives that are contributing to decarbonisation efforts at local/regional level and showcase projects that are establishing integrated local energy systems (energy islands).
EWRC: Securing the inclusive skills of tomorrow
As part of EWRC, three local projects from Oslo, Gothenburg and Madrid on the importance of approaching the green transition through inclusive skills development will be presented. The three projects focus on socially inclusive development of skills from different angles. This session will take place on 11 October from 09:30-10:30.

The Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in collaboration with the European Commission organises a high-level conference to reflect on the New European Innovation Agenda, and to discuss the challenges faced by public and private actors concerning deep-tech innovation and its contribution to the twin and digital transitions. The event will take place on 10 October 2023 in Madrid.
European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC)
The European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.
ERRIN event: Organising a regional innovation ecosystem
This in-person ERRIN event on 4 October, organised in line with the Management Board priority on widening and deepening engagement in R&I, invites all ERRIN members to share and explore the ways to develop their regional innovation ecosystems going beyond any specific initiatives or funding opportunities. The event will enable informal mutual learning and exchanges of practices between network colleagues from across Europe in an interactive way.

NEIA implementation report & Regional Innovation Valleys update
On 20 March, the Commission published the first report on the state of play of the New European Innovation Agenda, following its launch in July 2022. The document outlines the progress and achievements with regard to the 25 actions under Agenda’s five flagships, including the Regional Innovation Valleys. On the same day, an EU R&I Days debate on the way forward for RIVs was also held.
23 new Mission Cities awarded the Mission Label
During a dedicated session at the EU Research & Innovation Days, 23 new cities part of the EU Mission on 100 climate-neutral and smart cities were awarded the Mission Label for their plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. ERRIN is pleased to see that 15 cities are located in ERRIN member regions.
Express your interest in the 3rd Interreg Europe call via the ERRIN Project Development Tool
Interreg Europe's 3rd call for proposals, launched on 20 March, supports interregional cooperation projects addressing common regional development challenges. Organisations can use the ERRIN Project Development tool to express interest and find partners. The call is open until 7 June 2024.

Call for short videos on innovative regional initiatives to be presented at WIRE 2022
To highlight innovation in Europe during this year's edition of the Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE) in France, short videos will be played during the event, presenting innovative R&I related activities/initiatives/projects led by the European regions. Regions and communities are now invited by the European Commission to complete a survey expressing their interest in joining the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. After survey responses have been reviewed, eligible regions will be invited to sign the Mission Charter.

Looking for pre-schools and kindergardens working with science education through nature play
With climate change in mind, it is important that children have the desire to be in nature and experience it as an extended part of them. This extension must make up for the frightening images and bad thoughts about the future and the destruction of nature. The theater will stage nature / local areas so that discoveries in nature become something where there is an interaction between children and nature. We believe that children invent new ways to appreciate nature. The children's imagination in these performances or setups will strengthen their empathy for each other and nature, simply because of being in nature with each other. The project will uncover how science can be learned to pre-school/kindergarten children through nature play/outdoor learning with a focus on climate change.

Outcomes of the joint meeting with the European Commission on the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change
On 22 February, ERRIN organised a joint meeting with the European Commission on the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change to discuss regions' challenges and needs in terms of climate adaptation and priority actions for the Mission in the coming years. Following the meeting, we now welcome members' views on the Mission Charter that is to be introduced by the Commission in the coming weeks.
