Energy & Climate Change
The main objective of the Energy & Climate Change Working Group is to act as a platform to discuss and share information on energy-related policies and funding programmes, especially looking at the Green Deal and REPowerEU, the Green Industrial Plan, the Hydrogen Valleys, the energy storage and batteries (with reference to S3 Partnership on batteries) and Horizon Europe.
The priority areas also feature climate change issues (such as climate adaptation), nature-based solutions and natural resources. The WG is set to explore links and synergies with other areas in which energy and climate change play central role and cooperate with other ERRIN Working Groups, namely the Transport, Smart Cities, SEFS and S3 Working Groups, as well as the ERRIN Task Forces on climate adaptation and on the New European Bauhaus.

As part of EWRC, Pomorskie region is holding a session on Energy transition – making local and regional solutions replicable for Europe on 11 October from 09:30-10:30. This workshop will cover initiatives that are contributing to decarbonisation efforts at local/regional level and showcase projects that are establishing integrated local energy systems (energy islands).
EWRC: Securing the inclusive skills of tomorrow
As part of EWRC, three local projects from Oslo, Gothenburg and Madrid on the importance of approaching the green transition through inclusive skills development will be presented. European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC)
The European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.
ERRIN event: Organising a regional innovation ecosystem
This in-person ERRIN event on 4 October, organised in line with the Management Board priority on widening and deepening engagement in R&I, invites all ERRIN members to share and explore the ways to develop their regional innovation ecosystems going beyond any specific initiatives or funding opportunities. The event will enable informal mutual learning and exchanges of practices between network colleagues from across Europe in an interactive way.

Publication of the call for evidence to REpowering the EU with Hydrogen Valleys
On 19 July 2023, the European Commission published a call for evidence to collect further input from multiple stakeholders for a European roadmap for Hydrogen Valleys. This roadmap will outline the strategic priorities and actions needed to reach the REPowerEU objective of doubling the number of Hydrogen Valleys in the EU by 2025. The Energy and Climate Change WG and Policy WG are working on an input paper for this call. The deadline for direct submission to the Commission is 16 August.
EU Missions: The European Commission publishes its first mid-term review
On 19 July, the European Commission (EC) published a Communication on the assessment of the EU Missions after two years of implementation. The EC details the Missions' successes but also recognises the need to address challenges related to governance, budget, citizens and private sector engagement. The EC also proposes to add a sixth Mission on the New European Bauhaus.
DUT Call 2023 to open in September
The second call of the European Partnership 'Driving Urban Transitions' (DUT) will open on 1 September 2023. The call topics, grouped into three themes on Positive Energy Districts, the 15-minute City and Circular Urban Economies, can already be consulted on the DUT website.
ERRIN Spring AGM 2023 – taking stock of the EU Missions
ERRIN’s Spring Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2023 took place on 22 June this year. As always, it brought together the large and dynamic community of member regions and cities. Following the format part with the update from the network, the main focus was the EU Missions, approached in two policy debates, on the support and implementation frameworks in Adaptation, Ocean and Waters and Soil Missions, and the governance innovation and the perspective on Cities and the Cancer Missions.

Plenary Meeting of the S3 European Hydrogen Valleys Partnership and call for input
On 20 June 2023, ERRIN participated in the Plenary Meeting of the S3 European Hydrogen Valleys Partnership, hosted in the House of the Dutch Provinces in Brussels. In this context, ERRIN with its Energy & Climate Working Group is in the process of producing an input paper building on the work of the S3 Partnership on Hydrogen Valleys and collecting ERRIN’s members’ needs, challenges and solutions.

Looking for schools, universities with a learning lab/VR learning lab for Erasmus+ KA 2 small-scale call
We are looking for a school/ university partner who has the relevance, expertise and the knowledge to engage in a project on VR journey - applying VR technology to visit different climate hotspots around the World in VR. Hereby to contribute to the STEM related interest in your school/university as part of the education under Erasmus+ KA2 small-scale project. The partner must have experiences in creating creative ed-tec with an emotional side to it, eg learning with the whole body. They must be progressive based preferably in the Nordic countries. Finland is highest priority, Sweden, Norway or perhaps Germany. Secondarily other locations like Barcelona, Netherlands, etc.

ERRIN is organising an informal discussion together with the European Commission on the Mission area: healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters with a particular focus on exploring the proposed 'area-based lighthouse demonstrators'. Horizon Europe CL 5: Looking for a lead partner with expertise on censor technology/hydro power/data management
Norwegian industrial group Lyse is looking for a lead partner among Academic and research environments, different actors in industrial fields such as censor technology, hydropower expertise and data management. Lyse aims at meeting expected outcomes in this topic through development and testing of new censor technology for both operational and maintenance purposes in the European hydroelectric power industry. Lyse has been and is involved in several IoT endeavours, utilizing its fibre infrastructure and LoraWAN network in addition to introducing new digital technology in its recently expanded hydro-electric power station fleet together with Hydro.
