CO-WATERS Sustainable Blue Economy Taskforce to support the Mission Ocean and WAters Label

CO-WATERS Sustainable Blue Economy Taskforce to support the Mission Ocean and Waters Label

In the framework of the CO-WATERS project, ERRIN and CPMR will co-host two dedicated meetings supporting the design and refinement of the Mission Ocean and Waters (MOW) Label.

CO-WATERS is a Horizon Europe project supporting the implementation of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030, which aims to protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems, reduce pollution, and support the transition towards a climate-neutral and circular blue economy. Within this framework, the Mission Oceans and Waters (MOW) Label is being developed as a voluntary, EU-level recognition mechanism to help cities, regions and stakeholders align their initiatives with the Mission’s objectives and accelerate impactful action on the ground.

This Taskforce has been established to contribute expert input to the development of the MOW Label, specifically in relation to the Sustainable Blue Economy, helping to shape its methodology, thematic components, and practical relevance for cities and regions. ERRIN members, their respective ecosystem actors and colleagues working on blue policies and projects are encouraged to join and help co-design the MOW Label. Please be sure to forward them this opportunity and ask them to register. Expert input and on-the-ground views are highly valuable to the discussions and outcomes of this process.

The Taskforce will meet twice.

  • Webinar 1 – Context and process overview (Wednesday 17 February, 11:00-12:30 CET), participants will get a thorough understanding of the CO-WATERS project, the MOW Label and the role of the Sustainable Blue Economy Taskforce. Participants will explore how challenges related to economic resilience, pollution pressures, climate risks and spatial conflicts intersect in practice, highlighting the need for an integrated perspective for effective transition strategies. • Webinar 2 – Thematic discussion and feedback (Wednesday 25 February, 11:00-12:30 CET) will focus on thematic discussion and refinement of Label components for practical implementation. More details will follow. Registration link here.
