The Clean Hydrogen Partnership and the European Commission are co-organising the Hydrogen Valleys Days which will take place on 17-18 June in Brussels.

The event will highlight the joint efforts of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, the European Commission and regional stakeholders to promote the growth of hydrogen valleys, with 15 already established. This groundwork sets the stage for the launch of an EU roadmap for Hydrogen Valleys and related facility.

The Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP) of the Horizon Europe programme will launch its 3rd call in 2024. On 4 June, the CETP will host a webinar to present the topics that will be addressed in 2024 and to answer any open questions on how to apply for the call 2024.

UnILiON is organising its Brokerage Event under the Civil Security for Society Calls on Cluster 3 Calls, which will take place online on Monday 3 June at 14:30 CEST. This event is organised by Brussels liaison offices from the UnILiON network. 

The aim of the event is to build a platform to share ideas, knowledge and expertise and find suitable partners for future consortia under the specific Horizon Europe calls in Cluster 3, with a deadline in November 2024. Researchers, businesses and other organisations are invited to pitch their project ideas or activities related to the specific Horizon Europe Cluster 3 calls.

BIO2REG is organising its expert workshop focussing on how to fund the transition to a bioeconomy model in regions. This workshop will take place online on 4 June 2024 from 13:00 to 16:00 CEST.

Through the workshop, participants can expect to gain valuable insights and engage in discussions on how various regions embraced the circular bioeconomy narrative to drive regional transitions, by exploring the key drivers, challenges and successes in their transition towards bioeconomy model regions.

The European Green Deal (EGD) brings forth a comprehensive set of objectives and targets that are relevant to the use and protection of our oceans. A major challenge is the realisation of these ocean-related objectives. Current governance landscapes are multi-sector, multilevel and complex, and the pathway towards the achievement of the EGD ambitions for the European seas is not straightforward.

In this roundtable, we will discuss the role of policy coherence and institutional integration in delivering the EGD, with a focus on offshore wind energy and biodiversity.  We will present the first results of two Horizon Europe research projects (CrossGov and PERMAGOV). Both projects study how to navigate the complexity of EU marine governance under the EGD to develop a coherent and integrated EU ocean policy framework. 

Together with EU policy makers, who will share insights from their policy areas, this roundtable sheds light on how insights from scientific research within the two projects can contribute to better integration and coherence between offshore renewable energy and biodiversity ambitions. This roundtable is of relevance for policy makers, stakeholders, and researchers involved in EU marine governance.

Cultural heritage has been a long-standing area of funding and advisory services by the European Investment Bank. Such funding and advisory services are concentrated in European countries and can range from the conservation of UNESCO World Heritage Sites to urban renewal, notably in less developed European cities and regions.

Accordingly, the EIB Institute has ensured cultural heritage is included in its programme of activities. Since 2013, the EIB Institute has partnered with Europa Nostra, notably under the 7 Most Endangered Programme. This innovative programme mixes the cultural expertise and advocacy work of Europa Nostra with the technical and financial appraisal of the EIB.

This online masterclass is organised in the frame of the Europa Nostra’s network project European Cultural Heritage Agora “Empowering Europe’s Civil Society for Heritage (2022-2024), which is supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

The HOOP Policy Conference, taking place on 4-5 June in Brussels, will discuss the barriers and drivers for transitioning to local circular bioeconomy systems. This conference will bring cities and regions together to discuss and learn about implementing innovative circular bioeconomy solutions. A dedicated policy session will allow cities to voice their concerns and challenges to EU institutions and federations.

The HOOP project supports eight lighthouse cities and regions in developing large-scale urban circular bioeconomy initiatives focusing on making bio-based products from urban biowaste and wastewater. The HOOP Urban Circular Bioeconomy Hub will create an online platform to foster knowledge exchange and replication in cities and regions across Europe. HOOP will provide Project Development Assistance (PDA) to Albano-Laziale (Italy), Almere (The Netherlands), Bergen (Norway), Kuopio (Finland), Münster (Germany), Murcia (Spain), Greater Porto (Portugal), and Western Macedonia (Greece). This project is funded under Horizon 2020 and labelled as a CCRI-project, providing project development assistance to the eight cities and regions involved, thriving the implementation of circular systemic solutions at local and regional level forward. 

ERRIN's  Bioeconomy Working Group closely monitors the topic of circular economy. The Circular Cities and Regions Initiative, one of ERRIN's projects, supports the implementation of circular systemic solutions at local and regional level. 

As innovation ecosystems connecting different stakeholders, Living Labs have demonstrated to be crucial tools in achieving the European Commission Missions goals to tackle critical global challenges, from environmental sustainability to public health. To support Living Labs, the European Union has also been promoting European Partnerships, collaborative initiatives that foster the implementation of Living Labs in crucial fields, such as digitalization, climate action, health, and mobility.
