A Testbed on NEB Food is Innovation looking for consortium to join: Transforming an old factory building into a “food experience factory” in accordance with NEB principles

The project involves the complete renovation of an old factory building, to be finalised by 2027. The project will seek to follow the New European Bauhaus principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and aesthetic design. The building will be rebuilt as an “experience factory” with a flexible design for the engagement of the local community across age, living conditions, ethnicity, social divisions, education, and interests. The renovated factory building will communicate the local industrial history in a contemporary and innovative way while working across sectors, bringing together art, culture, business, entrepreneurship, and civil society under one roof.

The factory’s community kitchen

The building will serve as a multi-functional space that fosters creativity, learning, innovation, and community. The new community kitchen will be a platform for conversation and education about food, especially local food culture and history, locally produced ingredients, and sustainable production. The project revolves around the multi-actor approach, with the involvement of local museums, associations, schools and kindergartens, restaurateurs, food suppliers etc. Through initiatives such as communal dining and workshops on local food history and sustainable cooking, the citizens will experience how the old industrial building can contribute to the life of the city and become an asset again. These initiatives will educate and empower the citizens and help to positively transform the local urban food systems.

Please contact EU Consultant Helle Bech Sørensen-Hylle to learn more about the case and discuss further collaborations.

RIPEET Webinar Series: Energy Transition on Islands - Diversity of islands, common learning opportunities

The RIPEET project supports Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) policy experimentations for energy transition in three European territories - Extremadura (ES), the Outer Hebrides (UK) and Ostrobothnia (FI).

As part of the RIPEET project, a series of webinars have been organised to discuss challenges and innovative solutions to better support sustainable energy transition in European regions.

The third webinar will be held on 15 December and will address islands‘ energy transitions and their diversity through cases discussing the particular challenges faced in different island contexts. Indeed, islands‘ particular contexts, from energy potential, grid structure, spatial organisation to social contexts, will greatly influence their capacity to engage in the energy transition. This webinar will allow participants to gain a deeper understanding of the crucial role of local communities, technology integration, and supportive policy frameworks in building resilient and renewable energy systems.

Find out more about the speakers from the Aran Islands and the Outer Hebrides, and register for the meeting here.

Creative FLIP Project launches Creatives unite platform

Creative FLIP Project launches Creatives unite platform

The Creative FLIP project has launched Creatives unite, the platform mapping cultural and creative sector working conditions in the EU. This tool is a unique EU-wide knowledge resource providing concise and factual information and allowing for comparative mappings and issue-based analysis.

How did this come about?
The development of this platform is part of the EU Work Plan for Culture 2023-2026. The creation of this knowledge resource is based on the recommendation of the Open Method Coordination Group, which consisted of expert representatives from the 27 Member States of the EU.

What does it offer?
This will be the one-stop-shop resource to access concise and user-friendly information on key aspects of working conditions in the cultural sector in the 27 EU member states: regulatory status, social security, labour relations, learning and skills, and artistic freedom. The platform will, in the future, host analytical pieces and case studies on the topic, produced with the help of its key per-country material and external contributions. The platform also includes:

  • Mobility search tool: an interactive searching tool for mobility schemes between makers, creative hubs and fab-lab communities that focus on exchanging experience and practices between makers across Europe and its neighbouring countries.
  • My intellectual property tool: Intellectual Property (IP) is at the heart of the cultural and creative industries, and there are many tools around Europe to help creators provide information about IP. The platform collected such tools in one place.
  • So you need money: This tool provides information on regional, national and specific project calls and finance providers for the creative and cultural sectors.

The platform will focus solely on the issues of working conditions for artists and cultural professionals. It does not aim to replicate existing platforms on cultural policies or knowledge repositories on social security and labour relations for all workers.
