Design & Creativity
The Design & Creativity WG aims to raise awareness of design and creativity as tools and drivers for innovation in different sectors and across Europe. Our objectives are the following: To present challenges; especially in relation to sectors that do not yet work with design (thinking) and creativity; to showcase the importance of design & creativity through good examples and concrete cases; to create a strong and vital community among our stakeholders across Europe through a bottom-up approach; to connect designers, thinkers, business, policy and society interested in finding common solutions for different challenges and to create opportunities for the WG members to develop project proposals, share their ideas, stories and ongoing activities with the EU community.

Smart Tourism Destinations, a European Commission Initiative supporting tourism and hospitality services through technological innovation, is hosting its first peer-learning session on data-driven solutions in the tourism field. The session will take place online on 14 March, from 9.30 to 13.00.

The Design & Creativity Working Group is organising its first meeting of the year, which will focus on Design Thinking for Public Administrations, looking at creative tools and practices to bring science and policy closer together.

EIT Culture & Creativity Calls for Proposals are published!
EIT Culture & Creativity KIC first calls for proposals have been published. The application period will be open from 17 April to 31 May 2023. On 25 April the KIC will host an online event to help potential applicants better understand EIT Culture & Creativity’s mission and drivers, as well as key formal aspects of calls.
Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awards 2023: Apply by 1 June
Applications for the Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awards 2023 are now open! The theme of the 2023 edition is “Smart Tourism – Smart Destinations: Cultural Heritage & Creativity, Digitalisation, Sustainability”. The Awards will be given to cultural tourist destinations that have produced significant results, such as enhancing the visitor experience, respecting traditions and involving local communities. The deadline for applications is 1 June 2023.
Imaginature - Erasmus+ Cooperation partnerships project on performing arts and climate change
Limfjordsteatret, a theater from Northern Denmark is looking for an Eastern/Central European partner working with performing arts, that are used to performances with young children (elementary level) for projects on teaching children about climate change.
ERRIN input to Horizon 2014-2027 consultation
ERRIN is pleased to share its input to the largest public consultation on the past, present and future of the Horizon programmes 2014-2027. The document is structured around four main areas based on the network’s priorities: EU Missions, European Partnerships, widening, and ecosystem approach.

ERRIN aims to provide support to its members in developing successful proposals under the EU Missions of the Horizon Europe 2023-2024 work programme. ERRIN designed a brief survey with the upcoming EU Missions calls that may be of interest to regional and local stakeholders. Express your interest by 22 March.

Based on the principles of peer learning, replicability of practices and co-creation methodology, this webinar series aims to encourage a comprehensive understanding of circular and sustainable cultural tourism practices. A mix of on-the-ground experiences and expertise will guide participants on innovative practices and show how to apply them context-specifically.

Circular economy: improving design and end-of-life management of cars for more resource-efficient automotive sector
The Commission is proposing new measures to enhance the circularity of the automotive sector, covering the design, production and end-of-life treatment of vehicles. The proposed regulation is expected to have substantial environmental benefits, including an annual reduction of 12.3 million tons of CO2 emissions by 2035, better valorisation of 5.4 million tons of materials, and increased recovery of critical raw materials.

Call for submissions of cities and regions: good practices on high quality architecture and built environment
Eurocities and the Architects’ Council of Europe have launched a call for 30 best practices on high-quality architecture in cities and regions. 12 will get the opportunity to host a peer learning visit to one of the other selected cities or areas, allowing participants to learn from each other and from experts. ERRIN Spring AGM 2023 – taking stock of the EU Missions
ERRIN’s Spring Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2023 took place on 22 June this year. As always, it brought together the large and dynamic community of member regions and cities. Following the format part with the update from the network, the main focus was the EU Missions, approached in two policy debates, on the support and implementation frameworks in Adaptation, Ocean and Waters and Soil Missions, and the governance innovation and the perspective on Cities and the Cancer Missions.

Exchange of experience on financing the cultural sector
The cultural sector in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is looking to analyse how other regions have adapted after covid and ongoing economic issues. They are looking for examples relating to funding and eco-responsible solutions that have been adopted in other regions. After collating, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes will share the results with participants.
