Design & Creativity

The Design & Creativity WG aims to raise awareness of design and creativity as tools and drivers for innovation in different sectors and across Europe. Our objectives are the following: To present challenges; especially in relation to sectors that do not yet work with design (thinking) and creativity; to showcase the importance of design & creativity through good examples and concrete cases; to create a strong and vital community among our stakeholders across Europe through a bottom-up approach; to connect designers, thinkers, business, policy and society interested in finding common solutions for different challenges and to create opportunities for the WG members to develop project proposals, share their ideas, stories and ongoing activities with the EU community.

Empowering a Competitive Union: from InvestEU to the European Competitiveness Fund

On 12 May 2025, Brussels will host the 2nd InvestEU high-level event, focusing on the future European Competitiveness Fund and InvestEU's role in boosting innovation, decarbonisation and the social sector. The conference will open with a high-level session with Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, alongside other key figures, to outline the EU’s investment agenda.

The municipality of Emmen in the Northern Netherlands is looking for (two) peer cities that would provide some best practices and inspiration regarding urban regeneration. The European Commission has published the draft version of the 2025 Horizon Europe Work Programme, outlining €7.2 billion in funding for research and innovation projects across the EU. The 2025 programme includes a notable shift toward competitiveness, supporting technologies critical to Europe's clean energy and digital transitions. This includes funding aligned with the proposed Clean Industrial Deal, reinforcing the EU’s net-zero ambitions.

On 30 April 2025, ERRIN's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Working Group organised an event to explore how cultural heritage can contribute to addressing climate change. The session covered the international, national and EU perspectives on integrating heritage into climate strategies, while also highlighting regional initiatives such as local energy renovation, flood management and restoration projects.

Open call: Ambassadors of Good Practice on regeneration of non-urban areas through Culture and Creativity

Creative FLIP is launching an Open call for Ambassadors of Good Practice Programme, enabling exchange on how local communities are revitalised through arts and culture. This Peer Learning fosters exchange opportunities for the Cultural and Creative Sectors and Industries (CCSI) and local/regional authorities in non-urban areas.

European Cultural Compass – ERRIN took part in the first consultation with the civil sector

On 20 March 2025, the European Commission organised the first consultation with the cultural stakeholders on the upcoming Cultural Compass – the future overarching strategic framework for the cultural and creative sectors in Europe. ERRIN took part in the discussion hosted by Commissioner Glenn Micallef, together with over 50 CCS organisations, representing voices of the regional and local stakeholders.
