The Design & Creativity WG aims to raise awareness of design and creativity as tools and drivers for innovation in different sectors and across Europe. Our objectives are the following: To present challenges; especially in relation to sectors that do not yet work with design (thinking) and creativity; to showcase the importance of design & creativity through good examples and concrete cases; to create a strong and vital community among our stakeholders across Europe through a bottom-up approach; to connect designers, thinkers, business, policy and society interested in finding common solutions for different challenges and to create opportunities for the WG members to develop project proposals, share their ideas, stories and ongoing activities with the EU community.

The European Commission’s flagship research and innovation event will bring together policymakers, researchers, business leaders and innovation experts to discuss how research and innovation drive Europe’s competitiveness, sustainability and industrial leadership.
After concluding the Year of Skills in April 2024, the European Commission launced the Union of Skills as one of the new initiatives for its first 100 days. This meeting will inform the membership about the key aspects of the Union of Skills. Additionally, the event aims to provide insights into the regional dimension in this initiative and the reorientation for the skills funding that is envisaged.

The NEB Task Force, in cooperation with the North-East Romania Regional Development Agency, is organising a meeting on the topic 'Policies and Practices for successful NEB implementation: learnings from local stakeholders'. Taking place on 11 June 2025 (10:00-13:00), the event will look into latest developments and opportunities within the New European Bauhaus initiative, as well as facilitate the exchange of experiences, lessons learned and good practices from the implementation of the NEB initiative at regional and local level.
How can we make the textile sector more circular? How can the industry collaborate with regional and local authorities to provide sustainable solutions? What are the priorities at the European level, and what support is available for innovators? These are some of the key questions that the Cities Northern Netherlands and Oslo Region European Office aim to address with this event.

The European Commission has published the 2025 Horizon Europe Work Programme, outlining €7.3 billion in funding for research and innovation projects across the EU. The calls are now available also on ERRIN’s Project Development Tool (PDT). ERRIN members and interested organisations are invited to navigate the PDT, express interest and search for partners.

The municipality of Emmen in the Northern Netherlands is looking for (two) peer cities that would provide some best practices and inspiration regarding urban regeneration. The city has indeed an old zoo park, called Rensenpark, which they would like to sustainably transform, making it more climate adaptative and turning it into a useful and dynamic social place for the inhabitants.
This week marked an important step in shaping the EU’s next long-term budget. On 6 May, the European Commission’s public consultations on the post-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) closed. ERRIN submitted responses to three key consultations, grounded in extensive work with our members and outlined in 10 key messages calling for a place-based, ecosystem-driven approach in the future EU R&I funding. The following day, the European Parliament adopted its own initiative report on the future MFF, clearly rejecting elements of the Commission’s direction – notably the proposed single…

The session covered the international, national and EU perspectives on integrating heritage into climate strategies, while also highlighting regional initiatives such as local energy renovation, flood management and restoration projects.

On 20 March 2025, the European Commission organised the first consultation with the cultural stakeholders on the upcoming Cultural Compass – the future overarching strategic framework for the cultural and creative sectors in Europe. ERRIN took part in the discussion hosted by Commissioner Glenn Micallef, together with over 50 CCS organisations, representing voices of the regional and local stakeholders.
The European Commission has officially introduced the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Facility Roadmap, which offers a first glimpse at the budget, governance and implementation of the NEB Facility 2025–2027, the first-ever multiannual financial tool for the New European Bauhaus. ERRIN supported the shaping of the Roadmap by participating in the European Commission’s public consultation.
