The Science & Education for Society Working Group addresses topics related to the concept of place-based universities and engagement with society and citizens while also working on the role of education (both VET and Higher Education) in the Research and Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) as well as education and skills for research and innovation. The Working Group facilitates information sharing, knowledge development, and aims to strengthen existing and build new relationships with the EU institutions. Facilitating project development is also part of the Working Group's scope. For this purpose, the Working Group assesses the interest of the membership for specific calls under Erasmus+ and support in the most efficient way the members in building consortia, primarily with the ERRIN online tool for project development. Â

The CHARTER EU Skills Alliance for Cultural Heritage, one of ERRIN's projects, is organising a webinar on 29 May to present the project's findings on the sector's integrated dynamics and examine relevant stakeholders in the heritage sector. It will also allow participants to get insights into the process of mapping the cultural heritage sector in terms of skills and needs shortages in educational and professional contexts. The speakers will also present future scenarios and solutions.
TEACH4SD is launching ESD-Talk#2: UNCOVERING SKILLS FOR THE FUTURE IN HEALTHCARE. This ESD-talk: will look into the health sector from the skills side. The healthcare sector is currently struggling with the increasing elderly population and the consequences of this (i.e. age-related diseases), which outs other requirements on the future workforce. đ The webinar will take place on May 22 at 14:00.
Widening and deepening engagement in R&I has been one of ERRIN's priorities. This joint Policy and Smart Specialisation Working Groups meeting will concentrate on widening as one of the key issues to address in the FP10 debate, considering also its impact on cohesion policy post-2027. The event will be held in person at the ERRIN premises on 22 May from 10:00-12:00.

The Health Working Group meeting will update colleagues on the European Commissionâs initiatives linked to staff and skills shortages and training and up-skilling of the health workforce, exploring how regions and their health and innovation ecosystems can be involved in these initiatives. As part of the Science Meet Regions Initiative, the JRC has been developing a "Work with Evidence" training course on evidence-informed policymaking, designed to improve policymakers' competencies by zooming in on specific policy fields relevant to local and regional authorities. After three pilot runs, the JRC will be delivering the final material in an online format.

In view of the annual strategy workshops that we will organise with all the Working Group (WG) and Task Force (TF) leaders in the second half of November, all members are invited to provide input on priorities, topics, and activities that should be addressed in 2024. The input can be provided by 31 October 2023.
Last month, the Cultural Heritage & Tourism Working Group, alongside the Design & Creativity Working Group and the New European Bauhaus Task Force, launched a survey to map members' interest in the upcoming Horizon Europe calls focusing on cross-cutting areas such as culture, creativity, and tourism, circular economy and design with deadlines in early 2024. Following the positive response and active participation of over 50 ERRIN members in the consultation, ERRIN hosted a project development session to foster collaboration opportunities and spark project ideas.
On 19 September 2023, the European Commission published the list of actions that Member States and Associated Countries to Horizon Europe are so far undertaking or planning to undertake in support of one or more of the five flagships of the New European Innovation Agenda, including Flagship 3 closely followed by ERRIN. 20 countries have so far reported 169 actions in total, with their scope ranging from regional, through national to European.
Spotlight on future food! Mini youth festival that combines knowledge, science, sustainability and taste. About the project The project aims to create awareness of pelagic fish specifically and the magical world of fishing in general. The project takes places on a local school over the course of a week with the first four days involving both practical and creative learning. Through a combination of workshops and relevant theories the participants will gain knowledge on how to catch and handle pelagic fish. After the first four intensive days, the final day will be a celebration with the local community where all young people from Thisted and the surrounding area will be invited, alongside our partner school from France. This day will be full of activities for everybody, including kitchen workshops, talks and much more. Prior to this âfestival dayâ, all schools in the area will be offered learning materials specifically aimed at these activities, to ensure the best learning experience for everyone participating.
ERRINâs Erasmus+ funded project CHARTER has published its first public deliverable: âA new landscape for heritage professions â preliminary findingsâ. The report summarises the work and preliminary findings that WP2 has developed over the past six months.

Applications for project ideas for the 2021 ERRIN Erasmus+ Project Development Workshop are now open! The PDW will take place on Tuesday 7 October 2021 and applications for project ideas can be submitted until 17 October 2021. This is an excellent opportunity for ERRIN members to engage their innovation ecosystems and stakeholders to put forward their project ideas and benefit from the potential partnerships that can be formed through this workshop.
In early December this year, the Science & Education for Society Working Group will organise a workshop to develop project proposals for the upcoming Erasmus+ calls. In order to ensure the eventâs success, the ERRIN secretariat and the SEFS WG leaders will rely on a task force of volunteers to support the planning and practicalities of the PDW. ERRIN members interested in joining the task force can apply until 16 September.Â
