Online consultation on Digital Europe Programme

The European Commission has opened a consultation on the draft Orientation of the first two years of its proposed Digital Europe programme. Inputs received through the consultation will help the Commission finalise the Orientations for Digital Europe. These will then shape the work programmes and calls for proposals for the programme’s first two years (2021-2022).

European Capital of Innovation 2019 announced

Last week at the Research and Innovation Days the Commission announced the European Capital of Innovation for 2019. The city of Nantes in north-west France was awarded the title, securing a €1 million prize funded by Horizon 2020.

Pre-announcement – third call for Region Västra Götaland’s researcher mobility program, MoRE2020

Region Västra Götaland announces a forthcoming call for experienced researchers to submit research proposals for the Mobility for Regional Excellence 2020 programme (MoRE2020). MoRE2020 will offer experienced researchers (in possession of a doctoral degree or at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience) new and exciting mobility experiences in internationally renowned research and innovation milieus. MoRE2020 has a focus on intersectorality and will require all fellows to collaborate with end-users in the public or private sector.

Adoption of the CoR opinion on "Strengthening Innovation in Europe's Regions"

  On 16th May, the opinion on “Strengthening Innovation in Europe’s Regions: Strategies for resilient, inclusive and sustainable growth” drafted by Mikel Irujo Amezaga, Head of the Navarre Government Delegation in Brussels and member of ERRIN Management Board, was adopted unanimously during the Committee of the Regions Plenary. Smart Specialisation strategies have been a success story of EU's cohesion policy and created in many regions a new cooperation culture.

Call for special sessions proposals for 2018 SMARTER Conference on Smart Specialisation and Territorial Development (Deadline 17 May)

On 26-28 September 2018 the 2018 SMARTER Conference on Smart Specialisation and Territorial Development: Implementation across global networks of regions, cities and firms will take place in Seville (Spain) and will be co-organised by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and the Regional Studies Association European Foundation (RSA Europe).  At the moment there are two calls open, one for special sessions proposals, one for submission of abstracts.

Regional examples of financial instruments - Key points from the I&I Meeting on 19 April

On 19th April, the ERRIN Innovation and Investment Working Group organised a meeting on "Regional examples of successful use of financial instruments" at the Common Representation of the European Region Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino in Brussels. The meeting was the first of a series of events focussing on new and innovative financing and was dedicated on ‘decentralised’ financial instruments deployed by regions using European Structural and Investment Funds.

Researchers for Merlin and Irsus projects - free business services

The European Commission, through the Innovation Radar program[1], wants to promote the exploitation of the research results of the projects financed in EU framework programs FP7, CFIP and H2020, through two European projects that offer FREE business services: IRSUS (http://irsus.eu/) will focus on SMEs, spin offs and start-ups, which are important vehicles for co-creating and commercialising the innovative technologies developed within your projects; and on research teams, often a source of new products that are then channelled through private organisations to the market.
