Policy
The Policy Working Group works closely with the Management Board and the leaders of the other WGs to position ERRIN on cross-cutting policy issues. The WG follows closely overall research and innovation policy, in particular the Horizon Europe framework programme, from an overarching perspective and ensuring coordination of horizontal programme aspects. The WG also focuses on the preparations to the next framework programme (FP10), implementation of the European Research Area (ERA) as the renewed policy framework and agenda for research and innovation, as well as on the New European Innovation Agenda, especially strengthening ecosystems and the “Regional Innovation Valleys” initiative.

The Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region, in its capacity as Managing Authority of the Regional ERDF and ESF programme, and in cooperation with the Regional Studies Association and RSA Europe, is organising a “#EURegionsWeek close to you” workshop during this year's European Week of Regions and Cities (https://regions-and-cities.europa.eu/). European Week of Regions and Cities
The 2024 edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities is taking place from 7-10 October in Brussels. Under the motto "Empowering Regions" - thousands of local and regional administrations and authorities, EU institutions, young politicians, academics, NGOs and private sector representatives will gather in Brussels to share knowledge, experiences and ideas on how to bring forward practical and territorial aspects linked to the Cohesion Policy.
Policy WG meeting: Ecosystems in FP10
The ecosystem approach has been at the heart of ERRIN and its policy work. As we continue preparations towards the next European Framework Programme for R&I, this Policy Working Group meeting will focus on the ecosystem approach in FP10. The event will take place in person at the ERRIN premises on 12 September from 10:00-12:00.
CONFERENCE The power of dialogue to foster cross-sectoral collaboration
Recognising the vital role of interpersonal approaches in driving change, the Dialogical Work project proposes innovative methods to foster multidisciplinary collaboration across different levels of governance and sectors in the public sphere. The event will take place in Brussels on July 2, 09:30-13:00.
Workshop on regional policies to promote the adoption of innovation by public administrations
The EU project Prepare brings together four regions that are interacting with the local ecosystems to design novel policies that promote demand-driven co-creation for the benefit of local public services, SMEs and citizens. The aim is to help unlock the potential of innovation procurement to turn regional needs into opportunities. A workshop with thematic insights, resources and best practices will take place on 27 June from 9:00-12:30 in Brussels.
Future of the EU Missions in the FP10 & Launch of the Mission Playbook
The TRAMI Project, cordially invites you to join an inspiring discussion on the future of the EU Missions and the launch of the TRAMI Mission Playbook. The event will be held in NCBR Office in Brussels (Rue Belliard 40, Brussels, 5th Floor) on 25 June, 13:00–16:00.

ERRIN welcomes new network Chairs
The ERRIN Management Board has appointed three co-chairs to the network. The three postholders will work together as a troika to guide the network in a collaborative manner in the period of 2024-2025.
Exploring Synergies between European Partnerships and EU Missions – Mutual Learning Event
ERRIN and the TRAMI project are organising a Mutual Learning Event aiming to explore synergies between European Partnerships and EU Missions. The event will take place on Wednesday 7 February from 9:00 to 12:00 (CET) at the NCBR Brussels Office, Rue Belliard 40, Brussels.
Regional innovation highlighted in Council conclusions on R&I
On 8 December, the Council of the EU approved conclusions on strengthening the role and impact of research and innovation in policymaking – a priority file for the Spanish Presidency of the Council. A stronger role for local and regional innovation to strengthen competitive R&I is featured in the conclusions as one of the three mutually complementary dimensions.
ERRIN end of year reception - 2023 Highlights
On 7 December, ERRIN celebrated the network’s achievements in 2023. Following an engaging meeting with leaders of our 15 Working Groups, all ERRIN members were invited to a cocktail reception featuring a keynote from Markus Schulte, Head of Cabinet of Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. Launch of the Expert Group on the interim evaluation of Horizon Europe
On 5 December, the new expert group on the interim evaluation of Horizon Europe officially kicked off. As one of its tasks, the group will prepare a report with advice and recommendations for the future EU R&I Framework Programme. ERRIN looks forward to supporting the group with inputs that are key from regional and local perspectives.
S3 Forum completed!
The S3 Forum – the first EU-level, in-person gathering on S3 since 2020 – took place on 28-29 November in Barcelona. ERRIN Secretariat joined the event alongside many network members and hundreds of S3 practitioners and experts from across Europe. The days were packed with discussions around perspectives for smart specialisation and interregional collaboration on innovation.
