Science & Education for Society
The Science & Education for Society Working Group addresses topics related to the concept of place-based universities and engagement with society and citizens while also working on the role of education (both VET and Higher Education) in the Research and Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) as well as education and skills for research and innovation. The Working Group facilitates information sharing, knowledge development, and aims to strengthen existing and build new relationships with the EU institutions. Facilitating project development is also part of the Working Group's scope. For this purpose, the Working Group assesses the interest of the membership for specific calls under Erasmus+ and support in the most efficient way the members in building consortia, primarily with the ERRIN online tool for project development.

Next Generation Innovators Summit
The Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in collaboration with the European Commission organises a high-level conference to reflect on the New European Innovation Agenda, and to discuss the challenges faced by public and private actors concerning deep-tech innovation and its contribution to the twin and digital transitions. The event will take place on 10 October 2023 in Madrid.
ERRIN event: Organising a regional innovation ecosystem
This in-person ERRIN event on 4 October, organised in line with the Management Board priority on widening and deepening engagement in R&I, invites all ERRIN members to share and explore the ways to develop their regional innovation ecosystems going beyond any specific initiatives or funding opportunities. The event will enable informal mutual learning and exchanges of practices between network colleagues from across Europe in an interactive way.
CoR stakeholder consultation "Towards an integrated EU policy approach to support place-based innovation for the green and digital transition"
The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is drafting an opinion "Towards an integrated EU policy approach to support place-based innovation for the green and digital transition". Interested stakeholders are invited for a thematic consultation and exchange of views on 3 October 2023 from 10:00-12:00 at the CoR premises. Registration is possible by 29 September.
KEP 2.0 seminar: Implementation of the New European Innovation Agenda – What is in it for regions and cities?
The European Committee of the Regions and the European Commission are organising a seminar on "Implementation of the New European Innovation Agenda – What is in it for regions and cities?" in the framework of their Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP 2.0). The event will take place on 28 September from 14:30-18:00 in-person in Brussels, with ERRIN Director Pirita Lindholm as one of the speakers.

The European Heritage Hub project is looking for good practices
The European Heritage Hub is collecting good practices to share throughout Europe and beyond! Administrations of a city or region are asked to submit highlights of their work in heritage in the context of the ‘triple transformation ’ – green, digital and social – of our society. Ten practices will be selected for publication and promotion through the European Heritage Hub. Cities whose good practices are selected also get the opportunity to host a peer learning visit with a delegation of 20 participants funded by the project (3 peer learning visits will take place between Q2 2024 and Q1 2025).
Regional innovation highlighted in Council conclusions on R&I
On 8 December, the Council of the EU approved conclusions on strengthening the role and impact of research and innovation in policymaking – a priority file for the Spanish Presidency of the Council. A stronger role for local and regional innovation to strengthen competitive R&I is featured in the conclusions as one of the three mutually complementary dimensions.
ERRIN end of year reception - 2023 Highlights
On 7 December, ERRIN celebrated the network’s achievements in 2023. Following an engaging meeting with leaders of our 15 Working Groups, all ERRIN members were invited to a cocktail reception featuring a keynote from Markus Schulte, Head of Cabinet of Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. Erasmus Small-scale partnership - "Young in tourism"
Nord- Gudbrandsdal vidaregåande skule, Norway, is searching for schools and training centres with apprenticeships for an Erasmus Small-scale partnership - "Young in tourism". The region has a large growth potential in green development, but faces some challenges with their demographic and access to qualified labour.
A look forward: Launching ERRIN reflections on regional dimension in R&I post-2027
Autumn 2023 marked the start of ERRIN’s targeted reflections on regional dimension in research and innovation in the new EU Multiannual Financial Framework post-2027, relating to the next EU Framework Programme for R&I (FP10) and future cohesion policy. We are offering a recap of our activities so far, first messages and planned next steps.
Management Board elections 2023 – results
Following the call for nominations for ERRIN Management Board held between 20 September and 5 October, we are happy to announce the nominated Management Board members. The five nominees will be approved as new Management Board members at the ERRIN Extraordinary General Meeting on 16 November.

Looking for Primary school from France or Netherlands for Erasmus+ project on food culture
Spotlight on future food! Mini youth festival that combines knowledge, science, sustainability and taste. About the project The project aims to create awareness of pelagic fish specifically and the magical world of fishing in general. The project takes places on a local school over the course of a week with the first four days involving both practical and creative learning. Through a combination of workshops and relevant theories the participants will gain knowledge on how to catch and handle pelagic fish. After the first four intensive days, the final day will be a celebration with the local community where all young people from Thisted and the surrounding area will be invited, alongside our partner school from France. This day will be full of activities for everybody, including kitchen workshops, talks and much more. Prior to this ‘festival day’, all schools in the area will be offered learning materials specifically aimed at these activities, to ensure the best learning experience for everyone participating.

CHARTER Alliance publishes its first result & presents a new model for the cultural heritage sector
ERRIN’s Erasmus+ funded project CHARTER has published its first public deliverable: ‘A new landscape for heritage professions – preliminary findings’. The report summarises the work and preliminary findings that WP2 has developed over the past six months.

ERRIN Erasmus+ project development workshop 2021: Call for project ideas
Applications for project ideas for the 2021 ERRIN Erasmus+ Project Development Workshop are now open! The PDW will take place on Tuesday 7 October 2021 and applications for project ideas can be submitted until 17 October 2021. This is an excellent opportunity for ERRIN members to engage their innovation ecosystems and stakeholders to put forward their project ideas and benefit from the potential partnerships that can be formed through this workshop.

2021 ERRIN Erasmus+ PDW: call for task force members
In early December this year, the Science & Education for Society Working Group will organise a workshop to develop project proposals for the upcoming Erasmus+ calls. In order to ensure the event’s success, the ERRIN secretariat and the SEFS WG leaders will rely on a task force of volunteers to support the planning and practicalities of the PDW. ERRIN members interested in joining the task force can apply until 16 September.
