Energy & Climate Change
The main objective of the Energy & Climate Change Working Group is to act as a platform to discuss and share information on energy-related policies and funding programmes, especially looking at the Green Deal and REPowerEU, the Green Industrial Plan, the Hydrogen Valleys, the energy storage and batteries (with reference to S3 Partnership on batteries) and Horizon Europe.
The priority areas also feature climate change issues (such as climate adaptation), nature-based solutions and natural resources. The WG is set to explore links and synergies with other areas in which energy and climate change play central role and cooperate with other ERRIN Working Groups, namely the Transport, Smart Cities, SEFS and S3 Working Groups, as well as the ERRIN Task Forces on climate adaptation and on the New European Bauhaus.

ERRIN Spring AGM 2023

NEB in Regions and Cities event
A two-day NEB in Regions and Cities event will take place on 21 and 22 June in Brussels. The event will serve as a forum for learning and exchange among people, institutions, municipalities, and regions who are implementing or have an interest in developing NEB projects on the ground.
Connecting regional innovation valleys through circular industries
The Principality of Asturias through IDEPA, and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission will organise the event "Connecting regional innovation valleys through circular industries" on 21-22 June in Gijón, Asturias (Spain). The conference will build on the experiences and learnings of the Partnerships for Regional Innovation (PRI) Pilot.
EUSEW 2023: Harnessing the potential of offshore wind energy through skills development
The event is part of the official programme of the European Sustainable Energy Week 2023. The offshore wind energy sector already experiences a shortage of skilled workforce, which will be exacerbated by the energy crisis and its transition. The debate aims to find solutions to this challenge.

NetZeroCities Call for Pilot Cities
The NetZeroCities project, in which ERRIN is a partner, has opened a second Call for Pilot Cities. Mission Cities which are not yet part of the Pilot Cities Programme can apply to test and implement innovative approaches towards rapid decarbonisation. The Call for Pilot Cities is open until 6 November 2023 17.00 CET.
ERRIN Extraordinary General Meeting on 16 November 2023 – important announcement for members
All ERRIN members are invited to save the date for the ERRIN Extraordinary General Meeting, which will take place on 16 November 2023 in the ERRIN premises. The meeting is organised to make the necessary changes to the ERRIN Articles of Association and a minimum of 2/3 of the ERRIN members must be represented. Therefore, the engagement of each member is of key importance (participation is possible online for associate members).

The successful candidate will support the delivery of the Horizon Europe Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and take an active role in some of the thematic working groups related to tackling climate and the green transition. Publication of the call for evidence to REpowering the EU with Hydrogen Valleys
On 19 July 2023, the European Commission published a call for evidence to collect further input from multiple stakeholders for a European roadmap for Hydrogen Valleys. This roadmap will outline the strategic priorities and actions needed to reach the REPowerEU objective of doubling the number of Hydrogen Valleys in the EU by 2025. The Energy and Climate Change WG and Policy WG are working on an input paper for this call. The deadline for direct submission to the Commission is 16 August.
EU Missions: The European Commission publishes its first mid-term review
On 19 July, the European Commission (EC) published a Communication on the assessment of the EU Missions after two years of implementation. The EC details the Missions' successes but also recognises the need to address challenges related to governance, budget, citizens and private sector engagement. The EC also proposes to add a sixth Mission on the New European Bauhaus.
DUT Call 2023 to open in September
The second call of the European Partnership 'Driving Urban Transitions' (DUT) will open on 1 September 2023. The call topics, grouped into three themes on Positive Energy Districts, the 15-minute City and Circular Urban Economies, can already be consulted on the DUT website.

European Commission publishes Horizon Europe Work Programme for EU Missions
The European Commission has published the Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2021-2022, including the Work Programme for the five EU Missions. As a result of a budget increase, 19 new calls dedicated to the roll-out of the EU Missions have been announced.

A French-Spanish-Polish consortium is looking for a leader/partner of the project to apply to a New European Bauhaus call ( HORIZON EUROPE), related to the program: The New European Bauhaus – shaping a greener and fairer way of life in creative and inclusive societies through Architecture, Design and Arts possibly a municipality (bigger municipalities are ideal target but we consider the offer of smaller one as well), located in Europe and interested in developing innovative spatial green infrastructure but also SME’s, research centers etc.

NetZeroCities: contribute to the upcoming City Panels
The NetZeroCities project is now preparing two City Panels, which will give cities a chance to provide direct input and help shape NetZeroCities' products, services and processes. Any city is eligible to apply to participate in the panels, where they will be able to share their experience and expertise, crucial for ensuring the success of the NetZeroCities platform. OAMK's interest in joining a Horizon Europe project proposal in cluster 5
Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Finland) with its Finnish partners is interested in joining a Horizon Europe project proposal in cluster 5 on the topics such as HORIZON-CL5-2022-D4-02-05 and HORIZON-CL5-2022-D4-02-01, where a high-level demo site would be planned and built with respect to more sustainable buildings and life-cycle performance.

The new EU Clean Hydrogen Partnership launched
The new EU Clean Hydrogen Partnership launch was announced this week during the opening keynote by the President von der Leyen at the EU Hydrogen Week 2021. The Partnership aims to bring together the European Commission, the hydrogen industry, researchers and innovators as well as policy-makers from the Member States, building on the joint efforts of Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU).
