The Working Group promotes cooperation and facilitates dialogue between regions in the field of transport, mobility and logistics as well as with the EU institutions to raise awareness of the regional and local dimensions of the thematic areas. The group fosters discussion on new developments in EU policy and facilitates project development and participation in European projects.

EU mobility transition pathway, Transport WG meeting

The Transition Pathway for Mobility was launched on 26 January and offers many opportunities to bring the industrial ecosystem together to find common solutions to upcoming challenges. A representative from DG GROW will join this Transport WG meeting to present the initiative and the opportunities for members.

2nd European Mission Forum

The second edition of the European Mission Forum, taking place on 7 March in Brussels and co-organised by the TRAMI project under the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, will showcase EU Mission-related achievements and present outcomes of nearly 2 years of TRAMI project activities. ERRIN's director, Pirita Lindholm, will speak at the session on national, regional and European Mission Governance.

Policy WG: Towards FP10 – internal member exchange

The Policy Working Group is organising an internal member exchange to discuss the regional activities planned around the next European Framework Programme for R&I, as well as the structuring and focus of ERRIN’s input to FP10. The event will take place in person at the ERRIN premises on 22 February from 14:30-16:00, with welcome coffee from 14:00.

#EURegionsWeek 2024 kick off meeting

The 22nd edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities will take place on 7-10 October 2024. The kick-off meeting for potential partners will take place on Thursday, 22 February, from 10:00 - 11:30 at the European Committee of the Regions. It is also possible to follow this meeting online.

CrAFt Waterfront Cities Session

This online aims to explore the intersection between the EU Mission on Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030 and the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, by highlighting how the Ocean and Waters Mission urban dimension intersects with the blue infrastructure component of the Cities Mission. The session is organised by the two Missions in collaboration with the CrAFt project on 19 February.

Explore Hydrogen Valleys 2024 calls

As part of our ongoing collaboration with the regional pillar of Hydrogen Europe, ERRIN members are invited to participate in a workshop on Hydrogen Valleys 2024 calls organised by Hydrogen Europe Regional Pillar in collaboration with the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. The online workshop is scheduled for 7 February, from 15:00 to 16:00.

Publication of the call for evidence to REpowering the EU with Hydrogen Valleys

On 19 July 2023, the European Commission published a call for evidence to collect further input from multiple stakeholders for a European roadmap for Hydrogen Valleys. This roadmap will outline the strategic priorities and actions needed to reach the REPowerEU objective of doubling the number of Hydrogen Valleys in the EU by 2025. The Energy and Climate Change WG and Policy WG are working on an input paper for this call. The deadline for direct submission to the Commission is 16 August.

EU Missions: The European Commission publishes its first mid-term review

On 19 July, the European Commission (EC) published a Communication on the assessment of the EU Missions after two years of implementation. The EC details the Missions' successes but also recognises the need to address challenges related to governance, budget, citizens and private sector engagement. The EC also proposes to add a sixth Mission on the New European Bauhaus.

ERRIN and POLIS explore Urban Nodes in the TEN-T Regulation

On 6 July, the ERRIN Transport Working Group and POLIS organised a meeting on the impact of the revised TEN-T regulation on the urban nodes. The event put the focus on the role of the Connecting Europe Facility in effectively implementing the new requirements at local and regional levels. 

Circular economy: improving design and end-of-life management of cars for more resource-efficient automotive sector

The Commission is proposing new measures to enhance the circularity of the automotive sector, covering the design, production and end-of-life treatment of vehicles. The proposed regulation is expected to have substantial environmental benefits, including an annual reduction of 12.3 million tons of CO2 emissions by 2035, better valorisation of 5.4 million tons of materials, and increased recovery of critical raw materials.

ERRIN Spring AGM 2023 – taking stock of the EU Missions
