Researchers who have actively worked with Pilot Cities or Mission Cities within the frame of the EU Mission on 100 Climate-neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 are invited to join a collaborative event geared towards advancing research in the Cities Mission. The event aims to develop and foster a robust network of universities and research institutions actively engaged in this endeavour while allowing participants to learn more about the NetZeroCities project and the Mission Cities and potentially develop shared research outputs. The European Week of Cities and Regions (EWRC) has come to an end. This year’s edition has been particularly rich in ERRIN’s involvement, with the Secretariat co-organising four events, promoting projects, and the Working Group Leaders participating in several panel discussions.
In view of the annual strategy workshops that we will organise with all the Working Group (WG) and Task Force (TF) leaders in the second half of November, all members are invited to provide input on priorities, topics, and activities that should be addressed in 2024. The input can be provided by 31 October 2023.
Lyon Métropole would be interested in joining a consortium as a partner working on the topic of urban pollution and population exposure. The consortium would work to better understand the scope of the problem and contribute to identifying actions that could be promoted to better protect both its population and environment.
On 19 September 2023, the European Commission published the list of actions that Member States and Associated Countries to Horizon Europe are so far undertaking or planning to undertake in support of one or more of the five flagships of the New European Innovation Agenda, including Flagship 3 closely followed by ERRIN. 20 countries have so far reported 169 actions in total, with their scope ranging from regional, through national to European.

The discussions around the development of the Hydrogen Valleys are gaining momentum with the European Commission's open consultation on the topic. ERRIN submitted an input paper based on its members' needs, challenges, and solutions. This paper outlines how local and regional governments address hydrogen-related challenges and recognises the importance of Hydrogen Valleys as place-based innovation ecosystems bringing together key stakeholders engaged in developing hydrogen solutions.
2Zero partnership publishes a new Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) as the result of consultations held from January 2023. It includes the feedback received after the publication of two Work Programmes (2021-2022 and 2023-2024) and 32 projects selected for funding. The updated SRIA considers the most recent developments in pertinent legislation, such as Fit for 55, AFIR, Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.
Deadline extended until 7 June! Cities across the EU and Horizon Europe Associated Countries can apply to join the EU Cities Mission’s Twinning Learning Programme between 8 April and 7 June 2024. Facilitated by the NetZeroCities project, in which ERRIN is a partner, the Twinning Learning Programme will pair applicants with the second cohort of Pilot Cities, who act as innovation hubs to pursue activities related to rapid decarbonisation.

The third EUI-Innovative Actions (EUI-IA) Call for Proposals is now open and will close on 14 October 2024 at 14.00 CEST, with an allocated indicative budget of EUR 90 million ERDF. The call is targeting innovative projects focusing on two topics: 'energy transition' and 'technology in cities'.

The European Commission launched a call for technical assistance to support communities of stakeholders working with ports, islands and fisheries. Set within the sea basins of the Mission Ocean and Waters - the Mediterranean, Atlantic & Arctic, Danube, and North & Baltic Sea - this technical assistance aims to empower and guide these communities towards impactful and sustainable feasibility studies for their projects to achieve the Mission objectives. The first cycle will close on 24 May 2024.
