Cultural Heritage & Tourism
The Cultural Heritage and Tourism Working Group has two main lines of action: Sustainable Tourism and Cultural Heritage, and the policies and actions that link the two areas. In this context, the WG investigates R&I-related measures to mitigate touristic flows' environmental and social impact and encourage the transition towards sustainable tourism and cultural policies and practices. To this end, the WG supports ERRIN members in the uptake of digital technologies and the development of skills/competences in the Cultural Heritage and Tourism sectors, facilitating exchanges of good practices and developing new projects.
Finally, the Working Group aims to provide early information to members on cultural heritage and tourism policy future strands, financial tools, inter-regional joint activities, EU calls, and disseminating open opportunities and results of key ongoing projects.

WCEF 2024 accelerator session: Inspiring best practices from a circular hub in Northern Netherlands

Finnova Foundation will be holding the "FU-TOURISM stakeholder workshop: Building Tourism Ecosystems in Belgium". This event is part of the European project FU-TOURISM (Future-Ready Business support ecosystem for Tourism SME Transition to green and digital resilience), in which Finnova is a partner along with 6 other European countries. ERRIN members get Saltaire Inspired: Be.CULTOUR study-visit & Local workshop in Saltaire, Bradford
International partners from Be.CULTOUR project community traveled to West Yorkshire from 27 to 30 May to learn more about key events and destinations in the district, including Bradford 2025, exchange successful approaches and build collaborations. European Commission launches the European Capital and Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism 2024 competitions
The European Commission, DG GROW, has announced the launch of two competitions for cities and destinations with outstanding achievements in the field of tourism: European Capital of Smart Tourism and European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism.
Regional Innovation Valleys calls for proposals launched!
The first Regional Innovation Valleys calls for proposals under the European Innovation Ecosystems (EIE) part of Horizon Europe and under the Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) Instrument of the ERDF were launched by the European Commission on 17 May with an overall budget of EUR 122 million. The closing date for applying is 17 October 2023.

On 15 May, the European Commission's DG RTD launched a call for applications for the Commission Expert Group on the Interim Evaluation of Horizon Europe. Interreg EUROPE - Search for Partners from Finland, Sweden, Norway for project on spaces for creativity and culture for youth
Puglia are searching for partners from Finland, Sweden and Norway for an INTERREG Europe call. The project proposal aims to build knowledge and to enhance public policies related to hybrid spaces for young people dedicated to creativity, culture and innovation.

The New European Bauhaus consultations are open
After the Commission's proposal to launch a new EU Mission on New European Bauhaus, five consultations are now open to gather input on the objectives, implementation and financing of the Mission. All ERRIN members are invited to save the date for the ERRIN Extraordinary General Meeting, which will take place on 16 November 2023 in the ERRIN premises. The Commission’s proposal to create an EU NEB Mission
In the mid-term review of the EU Missions, published last week, the European Commission has put forward a proposal to create a new EU Mission on the New European Bauhaus (NEB). ERRIN’s Task Force is planning an event in October which will aim to gather concrete input from ERRIN members about the future of NEB.

EU Missions: The European Commission publishes its first mid-term review
On 19 July, the European Commission (EC) published a Communication on the assessment of the EU Missions after two years of implementation. The EC details the Missions' successes but also recognises the need to address challenges related to governance, budget, citizens and private sector engagement. The EC also proposes to add a sixth Mission on the New European Bauhaus.
