Energy & Climate Change
The main objective of the Energy & Climate Change Working Group is to act as a platform to discuss and share information on energy-related policies and funding programmes, especially looking at the Green Deal and REPowerEU, the Green Industrial Plan, the Hydrogen Valleys, the energy storage and batteries (with reference to S3 Partnership on batteries) and Horizon Europe.
The priority areas also feature climate change issues (such as climate adaptation), nature-based solutions and natural resources. The WG is set to explore links and synergies with other areas in which energy and climate change play central role and cooperate with other ERRIN Working Groups, namely the Transport, Smart Cities, SEFS and S3 Working Groups, as well as the ERRIN Task Forces on climate adaptation and on the New European Bauhaus.

KEP 2.0 workshop - Building Synergies for Successful Green and Digital Transitions – The Way Ahead
The European Committee of the Regions and the European Commission are organising the first Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP) event of the year. The workshop will take place on 22 June 2022, in person in Brussels. ERRIN Director Pirita Lindholm will moderate one of the two discussion sessions on "Ongoing or future strategies and initiatives".
Energy and Climate Change WG: REPowerEU & Fit for 55
On 20 June at 14:00, the Energy and Climate Change Working Group is hosting an online event on the REPowerEU Plan and the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive. The meeting aims to discuss how these initiatives can help accelerate energy transition and develop renewable energy models at local and regional level.

First Forum of Mission Adaptation to Climate Change
On Tuesday 7 June, the European Commission will host the First Forum of Mission Adaptation to Climate Change. It will be a moment to take stock, identify issues and scope out direction going forward. During the Forum, some of the first Charter signatories are expected to be announced.
Green Week event: Reuse of infrastructures to generate renewable energy minimizing the impact on the environment
On 2 June 2022 the Government of Navarra will hold a hybrid seminar to present and exchange good practices on 'Reuse of infrastructures to generate renewable energy minimizing the impact on the environment'. The idea is to have a meaningful and to-the-point discussion, where participants will take home concrete ideas and where they could increase their network. It would take approximately 1 hour and will take place in our premises and virtually.

3rd REINFORCING Open Call
REINFORCING supports European organisations and institutions in transitioning to a new paradigm where responsibility and openness drive research and innovation processes. REINFORCING Incubators Call supports organisations and territories active in contributing to European Missions by engaging relevant stakeholders, including citizens, in the R&I process and/or policies connected to one of the EU Missions.
The Forward-Looking Survey - European Urban Initiative
The European Urban Initiative (EUI) has launched a forward-looking survey to gather vital insights from urban practitioners and policymakers across Europe. This survey, hosted on Portico, aims to identify key trends, challenges, knowledge gaps and support needs in European sustainable urban development. The survey will be open from 6 June until 12 July.
Third Call for Proposals EUI - Innovative Actions
The third EUI-Innovative Actions (EUI-IA) Call for Proposals is launched now and will close on 14 October 2024 at 14.00 CEST with an allocated indicative budget of EUR 90 million ERDF. Each project can receive up to a maximum of 5 million EUR ERDF co-financing and project implementation should take place within a maximum period of 3.5 years.
ERRIN two-pager for European decision-makers
ERRIN is pleased to share a two-pager for the incoming European decision-makers, aiming to present the network and our value to the new MEPs, raising a voice for the importance of place-based R&I in the changing landscape. We encourage all ERRIN members to share the document with their MEPs to introduce ERRIN and the value of place-based R&I.
Over 70 ERRIN member regions announced as Regional Innovation Valleys
On 19 June, the Commission announced the 151 regions identified as Regional Innovation Valleys following the call for EoI and calls for proposals in 2023. 75 successful regions come from ERRIN members. RIVs will aim to strengthen the regional innovation ecosystems, bridge the innovation gap and improve Europe's overall innovation performance. New calls for proposals under Horizon Europe are expected in 2025.
ERRIN at the Cities Mission Conference and EURESFO 2024
This year, the Cities Mission Conference will take place in Valencia, Spain, on 25-26 June. ERRIN will participate in the conference as a partner in the NetZeroCities project, which manages the Cities Mission Platform. As the event is partly organised in collaboration with the European Urban Resilience Forum this year, ERRIN will also be there to promote its two Mission Adaptation projects: RESIST and Pathways2Resilience.

The RESIST project - testing adaptation solutions to key climate challenges
The RESIST project, launched last week, is a five-year EU-funded project coordinated by SINTEF in collaboration with INOVA+, which will support twelve regions across the EU in their efforts to build resilience against the impacts of climate change. ERRIN’s role in the project is to develop a Community of Practice and identify needs for a mutual-learning scheme. Following this, ERRIN will link LSD/Twinning regions with the wider Community of Interest.

The municipal housing company Degewo, majority owned by the State of Berlin, is looking for municipal housing companies that are active in circular construction and implementing circular economy approaches. Given that municipal housing companies face certain requirements and limitations compared to their privately owned counterparts, Degewo would like to exchange with and learn how others are approaching this topic.

Between 3 and 17 October, ERRIN members could put forward their candidatures for this year’s ERRIN Management Board elections. Five new Management Board members were selected and approved at the Autumn Annual General Meeting on 8 December.

Call for local partners - SHARED GREEN DEAL project
SHARED GREEN DEAL project is offering local authorities, regional authorities and not-for-profit organisations the opportunity to apply for a €22,000 grant to implement local actions focussing on the behavioural, social and cultural dimensions of the European Green Deal.
