Get inspired by success stories of the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative

After four years of Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI), it was time to share the success stories of 12 pilot cities and regions who implemented circular systemic solutions in their territories. During its first phase from 2022-2025, the CCRI Coordination and Support Office, in which ERRIN took part, supported these pilots in their journey to circularity working on a specific Circular Systemic Solution, addressing challenges and opportunities for circular economy in various sectors and value-chains.

We now encourage ERRIN members to check the recordings of the webinar that took place on 11 December 2025 to learn more from Asker, Capannori, Castilla y León, Flanders, Gothenburg, Guimarães, Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Hub, Munich, Podravje – Maribor, Roubaix, Tampere Region and Uppsala.

Their lessons learned and experiences can inspire other local and regional authorities to launch new local and regional circular initiatives across Europe and spark circular innovation.

The Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) is one of ERRIN's projects in which we manage the wider community of local and regional stakeholders interested in the circular transition and driving its implementation at the local and regional level. We are delighted to count over 20 ERRIN members among CCRI Pilots and Fellows. You can learn more about the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative, one of ERRIN's projects, here

The topic of circular economy is closely monitored by ERRIN's Bioeconomy Working Group. You can read more about ERRIN's input to the Circular Economy Act consultation (2025), the  Joint declaration for a place-based circular bioeconomy of ERRIN-ERIAFF and BIORegions and ERRIN's input for the European Bioeconomy Strategy's update consultation, including a strong circular dimension.

The Circular Cities and Regions Initiative will enter its second phase early 2026, launching new opportunities for cities and regions to get involved in the coming years.
